On 1 hand I understand and agree with this, on the other hand when I spoke about this on insta, one of my friends said this. 1st screenshot is my thoughts/question, 2nd screenshot is my friend’s response. /1

So my main question is: how can/
does an American (again, anyone
of the Americas, not just the United States) feel a sense of patriotism knowing the history of how these countries were formed? How can/do ethnic/ racial minorities reconcile our patriotism despite the history- and presence! - these countries have against us, especially when our contributions to these countries have at times come at the expense of indigenous people who've already lived here? In fact how do indigenous people find their place in these countries? Is patriotism even an emotion/value we should strive for?

I'm gonna be real I can't give you any sort of useful answer man, but I will say one thing. I have never felt proud of my country, but I have felt proud for the people in my everyday life. I think that's something to strive for.

It's similar to something I wrote about on reddit regarding my gender dysphoria. I guess I'll talk about this issue on reddit too. Fin. /3

Because I can feel that my dysphoria has gone down, but I'm pretty sure that it's gone down because I live with transphobic parents who won't let me transition and have - for the most part - forced me back in the closet for as long as I live with them. It doesn't really help because I'm Muslim (parents are as well, it's where the transphobia is coming from) and I've been really demotivated from doing a fair amount of stuff in my life beyond school (I'm a uni grad student). On the other hand, though, there are times where my dysphoria *does* come back. Mildly compared to before I came out to my parents, but comes back nonetheless.

My theory for why this has happened is because I think my brain is trying to protect me form everything that's going on. Maybe from an evolutionary perspective, self-preservation instincts seem to suppress aspirations of self-actualization because you can't really do the latter if you're dead (Note: I'm NOT suicidal, I'm just explaining how I think this neurological process is working on a biological, evolutionary level).

Another, non-evolutionary reason is that the fact that I can't self-actualize seems to be more depressing than the dysphoria, because the negative emotions associated with dysphoria and transphobic family members spirals into *why* they're transphobic, which spirals into both the social, legal and theological justifications for why transphobia is a good thing, and the negative theological implications for not just advocating for my own mental wellbeing as a transgender person, but also the social and legal rights of me and other queer people.

Basically, my whole experience coming out to my family has shown that I don't deserve a content life. I and people like me deserve to be second-class, with just about everything that comes with that. The hate crimes and other abuses against queer people wouldn't happen if we just stayed closeted. If I believe in and advocate for anything other than that, I risk divine punishment both in this life and the afterlife. The thing is, even though this is the best understanding I have of my religion, I can't stomach the reality of what queerphobia entails. I don't want to live a closeted life, nor do I intend to live one. I don't want that for any other queer person, and if I were to have children I don't want to teach that to them. Hence I'll be risking my place in the Hereafter, and that genuinely scares me.

I'm unsure how you've studied religion & religious psychology for 15 years (do you mean like academically or personally?) & reply that onlookers don't care about religious teachings - again, if you're talking about anthropology of religion then this makes more sense, though even then references to the actual texts & creed are researched I'm pretty sure - & that *all religious people* look like warmongering bigots. Like, the vast majority of the human race is religious, I find it hard to believe you think that almost 8 billion people are warmongering bigots.

Helpful to note that African-American spaces like bathrooms were not separated by gender like they were for Europea-Americans. Same idea transphobes have for us trans people. “jUsT uSe ThE dIsAbLeD bAtHrOoM” not realizing (or maybe some do) that this is also dehumanizing for us disabled people too

Funding isn't the same thing as the security state. Defunding the police wasn't the opposite of a security state because all it meant was transferring to other agencies some tasks--such as dealing with a mentally ill person--that fall on the police by default which most police would gladly not do.
"Defunding the police" is a bad slogan because it didn't explain the actual policy. In a community that shifted some tasks away from the police, the police continued to be funded and continued to do law enforcement. They just didn't do social work without support.
