European, originally a Brit, became German, moved to France. Runs #CrossBorderRail project, writes a newsletter about railways. Green, lives happily without a car. Normally stuck on a train, stuck in a village, or escaping either on a folding bicycle.
Pondering this Merz situation further His personal ratings are *that* dire, and the annoyance at the botched sacking of Schnieder so widespread within the CDU, could he even be forced out (asked to resign) early? Given the generally sober nature of German politics its odds against, but possible?
This weekend I’m in the Finnish countryside, at a small intellectual festival organised by a friend of mine Charming place. Sharp people. Sun filtering through pines and birches And everyone jaundiced and frustrated by politics, tech, the worst consequences of AI
I‘m fascinated by this front page posted by @adamjschwarz.bsky.social Did the people assembling that know the juxtaposition? Was it people lower in the hierarchy who dared do this, against the editorial line? Or no one assembling this front page made the connection?
My satanic rail presentation is done. Now time to enjoy some Finnish summer sun
What is Bob Dylan trying to tell us? Couldn’t they put “Europe” or “Europa”? 🤔
On Thursday a train derailed between Nice and Ventimiglia For 48 hours SNCF maintained it was a “panne” - a breakdown It was either a broken wheel or broken axle that resulted in a derailment No one was injured, but infra was damaged, and the untruthful communication from SNCF isn’t good
I was too much of a dedicated user of @deck.blue 😀 And this is Josette, the old stubborn cat who lives with me!
Like any such test take with a huge pinch of salt But it's not the worst outcome 🙂
This graphic was doing the rounds this morning about the German railways GSM-R outage - but this IS NOT OFFICIAL DB COMMS as far as I can tell, despite a DB logo on it! Seems this is some Insta influencer at best jumping to conclusions, at worst trying to deceive: www.instagram.com/p/DaCdAskq1aX/
Having cycled 28km so far in Paris today, I’m struck by how I’m making split second judgments about whether a fellow cyclist is going to be a danger - based on their bike, what they’re wearing etc. Anyone riding this for example has more money than sense, and that’s powerful, heavy, dangerous
Multi modal today as ever Birdy bike taken on the train, and now ready for 40km to three different locations across Paris today
Early morning sun at the Armançon, en route to the railway station (heading to Paris today) Water level still low. Water so slow pond weeds are growing
Also you can see it ends here, and the extra track is rusty so definitely isn’t for any sort of running. It has to be a safety or protection track of some sort.
Ah. Tondelier is talking in French about Herne, the German town. It’s Her-ne. Not Hern 😆 I wondered what she was on about. The other way it’s Elt-ville near Rüdesheim, not Elt-vill-le. I insist.
I‘m at an event of @boellfrit.bsky.social in Paris La Villette. And linguistically this messes with my head. English-French I can do. English-German I can do. But French-German just puts me in a muddle.
No idea about WiFi on UK trains, but the rest of this study cited by BBC is obviously at best confusing 🇨🇭 90+% of trains don’t have WiFi 🇫🇷 only TGVs do, there it’s solid 🇩🇪 it’s decent on ICEs, can be awful elsewhere https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn8pn4l03r7o
Quick stop for a photo at the Armançon at Nuits on the way to the station Just after 6am, early summer morning, river very very low. Grass growing long on the verges, water weed also growing
I don’t think Bluesky has had enough today of someone who should have stopped before they’re over the hill So here’s a rather threatening looking Johnny Hallyday
Your error: using Google Maps for trains! There are 2 regular ones a day, and there are even extra special trains when it is Strasbourg weeks of the EP.
TIP @notesfrompoland.bsky.social and anyone else for that matter: before being played by a company's PR, TEST THEIR TICKET BOOKING WEBSITE Przemyśl - gives an error (screenshot 1) Bohumín - works (screenshot 2)
