Time lapse of our drive north out of 100 Mile House on Highway 97 this afternoon, with the Felker Fire to the west. Temperatures are near 30C, with humidity below 20% #bcwildfire, and winds are expected to pick up this evening.
There are many factors that determine wildfire activity. Low winter snowpacks, which lead to drier conditions and low soil and fuel moisture levels, are looking like a strong predictor this year in BC. Current wildfire map and mid-April snowpack levels for your consideration.

Before my sister passed away in 2021, Albus came to stay with me and my kids. He was instantly part of the family - he loved begging at the table, using only the finest manicured lawns to conduct his daily business, and napping on chairs, couches, and beds (sometimes even his own).

I spent a lot of time up at Place Glacier during my PhD, and the glacier has thinned and receded extensively, which allows this lake to form now on the eastern margin of the glacier. This Planet imagery is from July 20 (with lake) and July 22 (without lake) 2024.

The Bow River at Banff (green line) is flirting with maximum flows (long dashed blue line) for this time of the year. Record snowpack, a prolonged stretch of warm weather, and now some heavy rains pushing the river higher. All-time maximum flows peaked at just over 450 m3/s during the 2013 floods.
