Today I am speaking at Woman’s Aid conference. One area of work I’m most proud of is ending the presumption, in family courts, that contact with an abuser is beneficial to a child. A policy directly responsible for the death of 67 children. I asked the minister about it recently

This week we launched the national cancer plan. It will revolutionise research, care, treatment and survival for cancer sufferers. This has been lauded by doctors and cancer charities alike. I’m proud to be in parliament fighting for our cancer treatment to be the best in the world.
Only one Tory on the order paper for Today’s PMQs. It suggests that few Conservative’s are confident are confident enough in their party to want to put into the ballot for questions.
I was proud to add my name to this call for a ban on social media for under 16s. The evidence is becoming increasingly clear that the pressure and emotional toll that social media is having a negative impact on our young people and we should do what we can to protect them from that.

Today I have written to the Secretary of State for Education to share my concerns and those of parents about the proposed merger of Pennine Academy Learning Trust (PALT) and the Trinity chain of academies.
Today the government announced northern powerhouse rail, the biggest investment for generations in northern infrastructure. I used the announcement to push for the electrification of the Calder Valley line something the Conservatives promised in 2015 before cancelling it.

Before Christmas I had health secretary @wesstreeting.bsky.social in front of the health and social care select committee where we discussed palliative care. This answer on the safety of the Terminally ill adults end of life bill was revealing and confirms many of the concerns I still have.

We won’t reach net zero without doing more to use less energy. And that includes insulating our homes. Yesterday a national audit office report showed that 98% of homes insulated under the last government were faulty. I asked the minister if this government will do better!

Thank you to everyone who attended my surgery in Elland today. An important part of my job is helping people navigate systems that have failed them. I also work to make sure I take stories from my surgeries and casework to ministers to strengthen our laws and fix our systems.
The Tory party will be consigned to history like the Whigs before them!
However there are still the specialties where unwanted sexual comments remain too high (surgery why is it always you?) And a stubbornly high number of doctors don’t feel confident reporting discrimination
Those at high or moderate risk of burn out remains too high, but the number is thankfully dropping…
More doctors are accessing flexible working in their training, with almost 2/3 of newly qualified doctors being women it’s important training reflects a world where people have more complex lives.
Trainers are more likely to say they have time to devote to training - with that number increasing for the last few years and having gone up 4pp this year. Trainers also feel positive about the support they get from their local education team (but numbers are lower in for GPs)
The NHS has always been a good place to train but trainee doctors satisfaction in their training dropped during the pandemic and plateaued since. However across all questions on quality satisfaction is improving
Today the @gmcuk.bsky.social launch their national training survey. The surveys of 50,637 doctors in training and 21,289 trainers can be a canary in the coal mine to tell us the state of the NHS. Here is a thread of 6 charts and what they tell us about the state of the health services
One area that I have been working on since my election is campaigning to end the presumption of contact in family courts which gives abusers access to their children. Too frequently the voices of abusers are heard over the voices of children. I pushed the minister further on this today.
Today along with over 100 colleagues I’ve singed amendment on proposed changes to PIP. I hope the government will reconsider pushing this to the vote. My statement below commonsbusiness.parliament.uk/Document/957...
I have already made clear my concerns about the impact of the proposed benefit changes announced in the spring statement. Today in treasury questions I asked specifically about the estimated increase in child poverty the changes will cause and how the government will tackle that.
