Anyone know of a CS student really excited to get some hands-on experience writing unit tests?? It's for a good cause!
Joint talk I gave with Russ Lenth at WASANR on how the maintainer hand-off is going for 'emmeans'. jpiaskowski.gitlab.io/talks/WASANR...
Great talk by @lucystats.bsky.social at the Agricultural Statistics conference in Lincoln. wasanr.unl.edu
Ah, this error that crops up every few years (rlang won't compile in a GHA). The maintainer of R actions has a "works on my computer" attitude, so I won't bother going there. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Totally lost trying to figure out the "SciENcv" format for C&P and BioSketches. The eraCommons is a endless series of circular links, but low and behold, instructions on how to format an *XML* format, something most scientists have never heard of.
These graphs of self-taught teenagers' startup to design agricultural herbicides is something else. 'Bindwell’s website once described these [AI] models as insanely fast [that] could predict, in mere seconds, the results of experiments that would have taken days' www.wired.com/story/ai-sta...
Just made my first actual substantive PR to emmeans (that I am learning how to co-maintain). By substantive, I don't mean huge, but something that's not just fixed typos. Dang, it's terrifying to try to carry on a legacy package.
apropos of me rewatching it, the Acolyte is good. Sure, it's no Andor, but it is a well paced, interesting story with some very strong emotional beats. Bummer that Disney gave into the trolls and cancelled it.
This definitely helps me understands why I got so many divergent transitions during HMC:
Ag statisticians checking out the Snake River valley along the idaho-WA/OR border. This stuff reminds me what I love about Idaho.
NCCC-170 meeting on! All the important applied ag stats discussions.
Dedra Meero is back, still putting up with no one's bullshit and being a complete bitch. I've missed her!
I don't know what version of retrograde mercury is in, but nothing is working with my quarto CI build today. taking ideas on what to do/spells to cast
There are actually open jobs with the USA Jobs (the hiring freeze is over) probably some people are applying, but I'm curious what the application rate is now.
Buried in the source code of lme4 (predict.R) is this gem. @bbolker.bsky.social is this your doing??
hey folks, I know we are all struggling. Here is a reminder to take a breath and attend to your needs, whatever they may be. For me, there are some writers I enjoy, and crafts that occupy my mind in a positive way. What helps you?
13. Episode with a great one-off celebrity guest: the answer is of course Iggy Pop in DS9's "the Magnificent Ferengi", which is as fun as it sounds.
I think we now all have an explanation for the infamous Batman 'nipple suit'
I wrote up a new years blog post about how I rely community actions to keep hope in my heart and I also drag those garbage arguments that "the world is getting better". jpiaskowski.gitlab.io/posts/practi...
