Suffolk mum and CEO of St Elizabeth Hospice. Passionate about health equity and encouraging Compassionate Communities to support one another. Posting mostly personal but bit of work too, opinions are all my own.
Murder in the Medway… an immersive murder mystery on a British Pullman train today with fine dining and guests getting sloshed while sleuthing. First prize & a bottle of Kent fizz went to my husband who worked out the murderer & the motive🕵️🚂 It helped that he read the materials and paid attention…👏
If you want to feel encouraged by the compassion of the majority, here is our team of hospice healthcare staff from our in-patient unit in Ipswich, taking part in last night’s Midnight Walk - fundraising for the service they care so deeply about 💖 1,000 walkers for @stelizabethhospice.bsky.social
Finally made it across to Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury to catch the Stanley Spencer exhibition. I love the new National Lottery funded extension - what a stunning addition to this historic rural little silk-weaving town x
Very satisfying visual in the Pips game today in @nytimes.com but haven’t managed to crack it yet…
Walking into 2026 hoping for blue skies ahead ☀️ It looks grey, but we did have a spectacular sunset sky later - you’ll have to trust me as I have no photo evidence.
I loved The Names 👍 And thank you for my Secret Santa - looking forward to reading that! Happy Christmas x
I missed Stir-up Sunday last weekend (we haven’t finished last year’s Christmas Cake yet) so I made up for it this weekend, baking 48 x frangipane mince-pies 😋
Looks lovely. I’ve been enjoying some local Christmas shopping too…. Woodbridge was nice and busy 🎄
At @hospiceuk.bsky.social conference in Liverpool today. Not an easy time for many hospices but we look forward to hearing from @skinnock.bsky.social as Minister of State for Care later about a new Modern Service Framework for palliative and end of life care.
Sorry for the old school sharing style but very interesting philanthropy development in today’s @ftweekend.com from @joshspero.ft.com and @joemillerjr.ft.com 💸
As the child of Shields parents - albeit South & not North - I feel surprisingly emotional about Sam Fender’s Mercury win. I never lived in Shields but that is our heartland and I recognise the big messy love and fierce loyalty. Well done Sam - or as my mum would’ve said: “Canny job” 🩶
First day back to work after some annual leave. We had a lovely dog sitter called Annie to stay who kindly left us some dahlias to greet us on our return. May you all meet an Annie today.
I am slowly catching up on Barbara Kingsolver’s back catalogue so was very pleased when my book club chose The Lacuna this month.
POV when you find a phone case online of your favourite painting in your hallway but it’s only for a Google phone, not an iPhone 😬 so went for snowy hillside instead (all by the lovely and talented Natasha Newton)
The British eventing team may have had a disaster at the European Champs at Blenheim but fantastic medals in the individuals for 🥇Laura Collett & London 52 and 🥉Tom McEwen & JL Dublin 🇬🇧 #equestrian #FEI Well done to Germany for the team win and delighted for Team Ireland’s silver 🥈🇮🇪
Started watching Race Across the World S2 E1 last night and couldn’t resist digging out our 1992 La Ruta Maya photo album to show our daughter that we had been to many of the same stops in our backpacking days … 🇲🇽🇬🇹🇧🇿🇭🇳 cc: @andrew.graysky.social
Great to see A Man for All Seasons at the Harold Pinter Theatre last night. Steadfast ethics in the face of a capricious leader, the resolute defence of the rule of law, the debate on whether silence constitutes condoning or defiance. I am now curious as to how modern historians view Thomas More?
Thank you @adapalmer.bsky.social for this post about Bologna six months ago which blew my mind, and inspired a lovely trip to San Gimignano this summer - the Manhattan of medieval Tuscany.
Today’s story in @thetimes.com suggests that demand remains strong - if attitudes in general had fallen sharply, you would think this would be reflected in applications.
The downside of your mum being in the charity sector is being roped into photo opps every time you go anywhere 🫣 Our hospice hares were the centre of attention outside Ed Sheeran’s homecoming gig at Ipswich Town FC last night so of course we had to take a selfie for @stelizabethhospice.bsky.social 💕
Nice touch for Olivia to bring out her hero Robert Smith on the Pyramid Stage tonight 👏 Watched on TV to try and spot my daughter who was right at the front - she’s had a brat weekend at her first Glasto, all sounds amazing but I’m glad to be 30 seconds from my bed 💤
Thank you to @jackabbott.bsky.social for hosting a Suffolk Day morning at the Houses of Parliament today to celebrate local achievements and aspiration for our county town and county. Great to meet artists, entrepreneurs and ambitious education leaders 🔥
College of Canons at St Edmundsbury Cathedral yesterday. Always lovely to meet a fellow Blueskyer IRL 🦋 @drfrancisyoung.bsky.social - looking forward to seeing your research of Edmund shared in a new way in the coming months with the Abbey Reborn project.
Celebrating International Nurses Day today in the garden of @stelizabethhospice.bsky.social - the heart of our hospice 💜
