6x award-winning feminist buzzkill. Franco-ontarienne du nord de l'Ontario. 🏳️🌈 Femme. I teach community care for a living and wrote a book about why resilience is futile, babyyyy ✌🏻 Actually fun™️ 📍Ottawa, Canada YellowManteau.com
Just got back from a few days back home & can confirm it is still a beautiful place that needs to be protected + even the most Conservative people I spoke to are alarmed & talking about how this is not our normal. Met lots of fire rangers who were giving people info on how to stay safe.
.@abortionrightscan.bsky.social put up this billboard in London, Ontario recently & because of anti-choice complaints, the ad company Billboard Hub wants to take it down. Please email Billboard Hub & tell them not to capitulate to losers who don't understand healthcare! yourfriends@billboardhub.ca
Hope is not naivety. Read some @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social before you even *try* to come at me with "Well, actually..." cynical bullshit. This is where I'm sitting. Meet me there or get the hell out of the way.
We are experiencing the world's worst air quality, and we're getting absolutely no response from leadership other than announcements about building more pipelines. Do not normalize this.
Please stop voting for people who are horny for pipelines. I beg of you.
"Hunt for the Wilder People" is my favourite movie of all time and it would be nothing without his performance. RIP to a real one.
Taught 74,000+ people bystander intervention at Ottawa Bluesfest this weekend! Opening for acts as varied as Limp Bizkit, Hank Azaria, Marc Rebillet, Hardy, DJ Champion and Cody Johnson is a helluva trip. A wild time but grateful for the space to teach community care!
To then immediately get whisked off stage to open for Marc Rebillet? Bananas. 🍌😂
Just presented in front of 35,000 Limp Bizkit fans. They were R O W DY & a contingent in front kept chanting to drown me out. Hella ironic considering my message was how to intervene as bystanders. 🙃 But baby, we held our ground & lots of folks locked in. Stay safe, Ottawa! ✊🏻
If you saw someone getting groped on the train, would you step in? If you heard a man going on a racist tirade in a Costco, would you intervene? Give me 1 hour of your time and I'll teach you 5 ways you can safely de-escalate harassment in public spaces. zoom.us/webinar/regi...
Ever been the one lady in yellow rubber boots in a sea of cowboy boots? T'was me tonight, opening for Cody Johnson. Taught bystander intervention to 15,000+ country music fans because my life is many things but never boring! Also got to open for DJ Champion & that ruled. He's a great time 🪩
I'm offering a FREE bystander intervention webinar next week in response to all the requests I've gotten as a result of this story. 7-8pm ET FREE! Cameras/mics muted, so you're not on the spot PLEASE help me spread the word! Registration: zoom.us/webinar/regi...
Climate change is a killer hellscape that we will not get out of with mere 'personal responsibility.' We deserve systemic responses and we deserve elected officials that make it happen.
It was +46C before the rain started and it's due to go back up to +39C by supper time. It's also supposed to be +46C tomorrow. The "Well, actually..." smarminess of some of you is legit making me LOL. I did not lie or exaggerate. This is not normal weather.
I can't read stories about incels killing people & treat it as another news story. Not just because I work in the field of violence prevention but because this is what my inbox looks like on an average day.
To be clear, I'm not mad at this writer! I think she nails the discourse perfectly. I just wish the discourse would be real about the fact that nobody, including me, wears 120mm Louboutin stilettos with no platform, for the comfort! That's not what they're for!
They're both so hot and so happy and their origin story is that they met at a party and realized they were reading the same book. All this nonsense manosphere dating advice for men when the reality is, if you want to snag a baddie like Dua Lipa - pick up a damn book and get cultured!
Anyway, Happy Pride Month from a queer in Ottawa whose Pride isn't until August 😂
I'm not a runner & the marathon start times are hella early. And I'm not a morning person! But the energy of thousands of people in the streets, hyped up & cheering each other on is really infectious. Grateful to have trained 28,900 (!!!) runners and their supporters at Ottawa Race Weekend!
Anyway, I was at Ottawa Race Weekend today teaching runners bystander intervention to end street harassment because community care is what actually keeps us safe. But hey, governments never wanna fund *that* I've earned the right to talk shit because I do the damn work.
Remember when Rona Ambrose was like "Hey, people in law enforcement should actually be trained to understand sexual assault" and Canadians were like "wait, you mean it's not mandatory for them to know this?!" Clearly, it is not.
As someone who has called police & been told I was exaggerating the threat to my safety, I needed to just get a peace bond & relax, etc. my heart breaks for all the women in this story who were downright abandoned. 3 days before she killed, she met with police who told her they'd closed her file.
Ottawa runners! I'll be at the start lines and festival stage for Ottawa Race weekend again this year. While you're getting corralled, I'll be on the mic giving folks a quick crash course on bystander intervention & the importance of building a safe & inclusive running community. See you there!
Have you ever seen someone get groped on the bus? Ever overheard slurs being thrown around at a coffee shop? Maybe you've been out for a walk and witnessed catcalls? We're not powerless to stop this nonsense. Bystanders can make a HUGE difference! Truly. Let me teach you! zoom.us/webinar/regi...
