Here's the palette. "12 bits" refers to expressing 16x less granularity than typical 24-bit color - simple clunky knobs for color, evenly spaced.

Kate's 12-bit rainbow palette, which uses colors evenly spaced in luminance, and reduces the color space from 24 bits (8 each of R, G, and B) to 12 bits (4 bits each of R,G,B) which means the color numbers are all single hex characters.

I would bring this shit with me on every road trip and *fill* it with contextually useful googling that I'd done in advance. "Best BBQ in Memphis", "scenic vista Galax", etc. -- I'd copy it into a dense scrawl on graph paper, alongside the maps, and I'd be R2D2 for the driver.

A metal map clipboard. It has storage for multiple sheets of graph paper, legal paper, and a clipboard on top for holding the current map sheet(s) that the driver wants the navigator to have in context.

Absolutely. I understand the median voter has room in their head for two, maybe three, candidates. Name recognition, small budgets, niche policies, and other stupidity are going to make 45 of those 50 candidates irrelevant. But the 5% of voters with strong policy preferences will move the needle...

The surfer in blue, below him, will likely be able to push the nose of his board down and go through the breaking crest. A third surfer at the bottom of the image is still mostly horizontal and is either going to successfully "duck dive" through the base of the wave, or he is taking a very short and exciting ride back to shore, the first portion of which will be done backwards.

I love me an osprey! The diving and hauling back prey are just completely amazing; I could watch them circling & diving into the ocean all day.
