Commute enjoyer. One of the simplest acts of rebellion you can do is to ride a bike instead of drive. Choke the oil barons and automakers. she/her/they
Took the bus all last week because of seasonal crud. Convinced myself to try cycling all 5 days this week, and I'm greeted with this delightful weather. At least the pre-dawn views are nice with the tollway incense sticks, lit guardrails, and the Melburn Wheel poking through in the background.
Test ride later today with longer rides planned next week. I think this is going to feel way better for commuting. @bettybarcode.com
New bag for my pannier rack, for those commuting days I don't feel like wearing a lot of pockets. Forgot to ask about a new saddle today, d'oh!
I love baking for family. Today's feature is the RecipeTin lemon cake with glaze.
Thanks PTV, but what I'd really love is a bus on my route to arrive on time.
My O.G. GoPro Hero Session cube is still going strong! It's very happy in its new, tidy cockpit spot on the Checkpoint. Not much charge left though - just enough for a 50ish minute commute. If I were to ask Santa for a new camera this year, what's a decent one that won't break the bank?
The pannier mount for my @cycliq.bsky.social Fly6 crumbled this morning, luckily before I started riding, so I had to put it on my seatpost. It has a little hat now, thanks to the ass saver integrated on the saddle.
Forget about micro plastics; check your foods for macro plastics before putting them in your child's school lunch.
It had to happen eventually... Glad I switched bikes when I got home. And the driver gave me his details. Incredibly lucky that I stayed upright.
Update!!! The claim process is LEGIT and Trek are legends. I get to ride my replacement home tomorrow.
The hardest part of riding to work after a big rain is trying to enjoy the rainbow while focusing on the road and other road users.
There's something very satisfying about knocking most of the rust off of a formerly shiny bike bell.
Please help me pick a bookmark for @thewaroncars.bsky.social Life After Cars! I included text descriptions in the alt.
Finally had 20 minutes to tinker, so I hooked up the left brake lever, cable, housing and noodle for the rear brakes. I had to file down where someone cut through the cable routers on the frame and then zip tie the new cable to the shifter cable. Chain goes on next & grips are on order at the LBS!
The other fun thing about detouring for errands is you get to try out new routes. This one was just opened in December and I've only had a couple of occasions to enjoy it.
I took a detour this morning to return library books. It only added a few minutes, but there was a risk of taking longer when I spotted my state MP sitting on a bench. I love that commuting by bike enables me to interact with people around me (or not, lol) and it makes the drop box a drive-thru!
The hardest part of riding to work in the rain is remembering to wipe off the camera periodically.
Look at the difference!! Most of this rust is just dirt! It came off easily with a bit of drivetrain cleaner. I had time to tackle the rear hub and cassette on my lunch break today. Really want to see if I can save the chain.
Finally found time to work on the abandoned bike this morning. The bearings all feel great, there's VERY minimal surface rust, and stuck-on grime in all the expected places. It cleans up really well with little effort. This has been living in a shed for years, not outside. Look at it shine!
Came in before sunrise this morning and I got to see how bright the greenwash lighting is in the Veloway. The whole corridor is very well lit and there are plenty of other people out and about.
Damn, stuck in traffic. Haha just kidding, this many people can easily make it through on one light.
