UPDATE: The @who.int is advising all who contact MV Hondius ship evacuees to wear respirator masks (n95 or FFP2/3 equivalent). This is amazing and I hope this is extended to advice to all HCWs when seeing undifferentiated unwell respiratory viruses www.who.int/publications...
That means HCWs should be using respirator (N95) masksnespecially with infected and suspected patients, but also in high-risk environments, like HOSPITALS. That means improving ventilation in public spaces. We should be preparing for whatever pandemic comes next, whether that is Hanta or not. 5/
HCWs should follow this Infection Protection and Control advice rather than that of the WHO, please. www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publicati...

I really like this infographic from CAEP. Really nails the essence of the problems, and ways forward.
Nevertheless, I can't underemphasize the need for the precautionary principle in approaching PPE use for any respiratory illnesses currently. As Campbell (2007) told us, the safest path is to presume airborne transmission (respiratory mask use) until we know for sure it isn't. 2.4
I can't emphasize how inappropriate this advice from the @who.int is. We have learned nothing. This, for a disease that has ongoing spread, with 30-40% mortality. Precautionary principle for the win. www.who.int/emergencies/...
