Senator Tim Kaine
@kaine
Official account of U.S. Senator Tim Kaine.
Today the INSULIN Act—bipartisan legislation I'm proud to cosponsor—cleared the HELP Committee. It caps insulin at $35/month for privately insured Americans. Now let's get it to the Senate floor and over to the House.
Good news – Virginia just ranked #3 in the nation for business. Even in the face of reckless tariffs, DOGE cuts to our federal workforce, and foolish war with Iran, Virginia stays resilient.
If you're going to order our troops into war, you'd better have a damn good reason. Three servicemembers come home to Dover tomorrow. Their families will ask why. President Trump has no answer.
@markwarner.bsky.social and I were proud to welcome Virginia's Scouts and their families to D.C. last week to celebrate their many achievements. As a former Boy Scout, it was great to congratulate these future leaders on their hard work and dedication
Gas prices are up about 30% since Trump's foolish and illegal war began — costing Americans $56.4 billion more at the pump, or $477 per household on average. These are the top 6 states with the highest increases:
Sebastian Durán Guerrero was going to work to support his partner and 3-year-old. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was driving to work with his brother. ICE shot and killed both men. We need thorough investigations and accountability for these tragedies.
Doug Mastriano is not qualified to be an ambassador. Anyone who can't acknowledge basic facts a fourth grader would understand has no business representing the United States.
The Attorney General is America's top law enforcement officer—not the President's personal attorney. Todd Blanche has repeatedly shown that he's the wrong person for the job.
Honored to have been the Guest of Honor at last night’s @USMC Sunset Parade at the Marine Corps War Memorial. One of our sons commissioned there, so it was special to be back. It was a poignant reminder of the service and sacrifices of our Marines.
The Election Assistance Commission exists for one reason: to help state and local election officials run secure, well-administered elections. This week, the President forced out every remaining commissioner — four months before the midterms.
The ceasefire falls apart and now Trump says America must be "the guardian of the Strait"? The American people deserve better than a foolish, illegal war that puts servicemembers at risk and sends prices through the roof.
Enjoyed walking around Belle Isle with folks from the Friends of the James River Park and learning more about FOJRP’s efforts to promote recreation and conservation and ensure everyone can continue to visit this amazing place.
Last Friday, Mayor Avula and I met with Tobacco Free Kids advocates in Richmond to discuss keeping tobacco and nicotine products away from children. Their advocacy helped get my bipartisan bill to raise the tobacco age to 21 signed into law, and I'll keep working with them to protect public health.
Yesterday, I visited the Moton Museum in Farmville to see how $500,000 I secured was used for upgrades. We must continue to tell the story about how Barbara Johns and other students’ brave protest led to the SCOTUS decision outlawing segregation in schools.
Kicked off Wednesday in Buena Vista with a roundtable discussion at the Virginia Innovation Accelerator (VIA). We talked about our work to boost economic development and celebrated $943,000 in funding I secured to fund workforce training and business development initiatives at VIA.
Glad to see the Shockoe Institute in Richmond featured in the Washington Post. It is a great exhibit. I encourage all Virginians to visit and learn about slavery from the experiences of those who lived through it.
Great tour and celebration at the YMCA of Central Virginia in Lynchburg! I was proud to secure $1.4 million in federal funding for ADA compliance improvements. Every community member deserves a Y that's accessible.
Tuesday, I celebrated the $500,000 my team and I secured for the Staunton Redevelopment and Housing Authority to build new housing. We also discussed how we can continue to work together to ensure everyone has a safe, affordable place to live.
Yesterday, I sat down with the United Way of Central Shenandoah Valley. We talked about how rising costs, access to child care, and transportation barriers are holding working families back. I'm going to keep fighting to lower costs and expand child care.
Great tour of Emu News in Harrisonburg yesterday to learn about the university's expansion of its STEM and nursing programs and talk about our efforts to support workforce development. I was glad to secure $1.3 million in federal funding to help make these upgrades possible
Great visit to the Dr. Terry Sinclair Health Clinic in Winchester! Their staff provides comprehensive primary care to uninsured and underinsured Virginians, and I was proud to secure $490,000 in federal funding to renovate exam rooms and expand lab capacity.
Visited LAWS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services in Leesburg to learn about its work and how it’s using $1 million in funding I helped secure for a new shelter for survivors of domestic violence. I’ll keep working to ensure every survivor has the support they need to heal.
Congratulations to Virginia250 for a superb July 4 celebration in Williamsburg, following months of wonderful programming all over the Commonwealth! Inspiring, educational, unifying.
Started July 4 watching dedicated workers out early repairing a train wreck. That’s the American spirit!
Wishing everyone around the Commonwealth and the United States a happy and safe Fourth of July. Today, as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, let's honor our shared commitment to freedom, equality, and justice.
My statement following the Supreme Court's birthright citizenship ruling:
My statement on the Supreme Court's decision in Trump v. Slaughter that destroys agency independence:
Eleven years ago, the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in Obergefell v. Hodges, affirming what countless LGBTQ+ couples have always known to be true—love is love. I will keep fighting to make sure every American can live a life of dignity and joy.
The real people are doing good work. Donald Trump—who admits he doesn’t care about your housing costs—is throwing a temper tantrum.
I talked with Loren Piretra about reproductive freedom and why your rights shouldn't change at a state line.
