- Oh not you again ! - The muscular virtual man slumped in place.
Apparently Vela had left a lasting impression on the AI's tiny cartridge.
"Yes." Vela waved and courtly walked over to the orange glowing table of contents.
Most lessons sat at barely passing, except for reconnaissance which was marked aced.
Situational awareness 1 blinked in red FAIL Retry with the related ones being untouched so far.
"Hey you aced recon, cool !" Nori pointed out the positive, as usual.
- Yes, but she burned down the bar in SitA-1 - their AI-trainer added. - twice - he shot a pointed look at Vela. "It was an accident, and the second time it was just one table." she retorted, her finger hovering over the failed entry.

Belle dealing with a heavy mission and her past clawing it's way back to her. #AmWriting #WriteSky From 'Retribution' , which I'll slap on Ao3 when it's done.

While having the medkit opened she mulled on dosing some neuroblockers, but opted not to. She kind of rued the decision now. With only the dark tunnel and her muffled steps echoing around memories flooded in, unbidden guests of a time before.
Investigations going nowhere, the lawbreakers looping their efforts.
The cybersystem was busy with fighting whatever was haunting her leg. No capacity to suppress her own brain any more. Why now. It was over. The bitch is dead. But the backup. Will the trace be enough ? What kind of arrest leaves a charred crater ? Are you nuts ? What about the others ?
Thump. Belle had hit herself with her free hand. This would leave a mark. But mental clarity had piked up.
Her knuckles were covered in liquid. Did she hit too hard ? Regaining feeling in her face hotly flared in realization, these were tears.

Vela had realized that she knew very little of Nori’s
past. It only started to be an issue recently for her though. But she couldn’t exactly tell why.
”Yea, I did. I mainly worked for KC Accidental on Entrades.” Nori answered after a slight pause. Picking up on Vela’s questioning look she added.
”It’s the biggest hospital on Entrades, known for their trauma-team and accident care, so the name ended up that way.” - ”Ugh, I see.” Vela tried to shake off the invasive impressions of recent injury.
”I didn’t work in the trauma-team or anything like that.” Nori immedietly defused.
”I was in the social-psych unit. Troubled teens, broken homes, cyber-rehabs. That sort of stuff.” Vela was a bit elated.
”Not too different from university I bet.” - ”aYea, some problems seem to stay the same.” Nori mulled.
”And the Alliance always had a grip on things. Yet, a surprising amount of youths fall through the cracks.”
her voice grew a bit distant.
”I did my best, I think. There was a wave of school dropouts one time. And I was brought in to consult with the UPA.”
Vela sighed at that unexpected turn.
”Why ? Do you think it’s a problem ?” - ”No, not at all. I think everyone had a phase like that don’t they ?”
Vela looked away. Nori continued.

On their way out Vela could feel heat radiating from the walls and conduits. Where the ships atmosphere mixed with the cool station dock air she could almost make out barely visible eddies distorting lights near metal surfaces. Passing below the bronze hull she could hear clicks and hisses of expanding metal, like from a labored bike.

Arching robotic cranes sprayed liquid on the hyperdrive's spines, creating billowing blue-ish clouds that were sucked to vents high above in the hangar's ceiling. Plantkin and station engineers yelled over the boiling hiss. Blastwalls had emerged from the ground to shield the foot traffic from the spectacle but it still kept Vela walking nearly backwards beside Nori.

Mag 5 hedging a plan to get ahold of Vela in 'Cloudgazer' #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

The case against Vela hardened in Mag 5's core. Her reluctance to be scanned, the missing radiation and, most damningly, her getting abducted by the Consortium.
They needed to formulate a report that mobilized Alliance assets to get ahold of Vela, yet not implicate themselves. Even with the most thorough scrubbing and reformating possible outside a shipyard today's events were still in the crew's organic memory.
Indeed. A subcore had formulated a post-action report to satisfy the crew's desire for gossip, ride on it even, and minify interest in the external pod. Geddon probably had believed Mag 5's perspective on it, framing it as a planetside attack of whatever lurked below. Of course no logs were available as the pod was scuttled per protocol.

Time had slowed for Vela, she could perceive clearly and coldly what was happening in slow motion.
An exquisite contrast to the rising heat of the falling ship. Voidborne tech was ramping up it's activity.
Her voidself manifested next to the central column.
- Get it together ! -
Vela turned her gaze to Voidvela who was angrily gesturing at the techtangle text to them.
- I think we're going the wrong direction aren't we.. -
Vela had trouble manifesting thoughts without yelling.
- Yea, straight into oblivion. Grasp the cables. Do it. - Vela understood her voidself's intention, the techlines were lighting up, the greenish flashes through her skin made her sick.
She could see Nori's scared expression, mouth agape but unable to react in time as Vela's fingers almost crushed a thick bundle of conduits with unexpected vigour. The relief was immediate, a crackle of voidborne machine-activity unloaded into the central column. The screen patterns became much more vivid and visible. The ship's sensory inputs replaced Vela's vision. The drivespine's painful resonance burned in her eardrums, her whole self reverberated as she slid under the abstract ice pane, with nothing but endless dark below.

Fortunately the greenhouse was the first stop this morning. He made his way over to the natural science dome. Past empty foodcourts, offices and metal floored hallways. Lowest level of applied biology. Through airlocks and shifting metal doors, bright UV, dark violet and yellow light brushed past. Until a final sliding glas door opened up to a wave of humid faux djungle air enveloping him.
Pink glaring UV-lamps illuminated the chamber deep inside the nat-sci dome. Two fully geared assistants, with glasses, masks and oxygen-rebreathers were collecting samples from various shelves ladden with fungal colonies.
"How are things ? Mineralizer took on ?" Brynn inquired with a grin. He only needed glasses due to his fully cybernetic lungs. The spore and organics loaded atmosphere would choke an ordinary baseliner.

Nori had overheard it all. She was just coming back from helping Yrhal in the hangar to get a late snack in the messhall. Seeing Vela and Belle engaged like this sent a cold shower down her spine, she couldn't help but observe. Vela had left through the other door towards the quarter. Leaving Belle slumping in the undersized seat.
"And I thought you just like to lurk." Belle called her out with eyes closed. Dramatic bitch. Nori sighed and stepped into the messhall, stopping short of Belle's table. There was no point in games.
"Who sent you ?" Nori asked, not really expecting an answer, but making clear that she didn't intend to beat around the bush.
"Red Dragon of course." Belle pointed at the roughed up patch on her chest.

Vela has to order something to eat in a restaurant Belle spontaneously selected. Doesn't help that the place carries foods from 3 different cultures. Fortunately there are always fries. In 'Cloudgazer' #WIPSnips #WriteSky

Unfortunately it seemed that, despite being near the Alliance, they had absolutely nothing from the synth-protocols, not even anything close.
No omelettes, no protein blocks. She zoomed in on a few images to find something edible by cross-reference. There were blocks but they looked spicy. There were disk-shaped snacks but with algae salad. Nori watched Vela's face turn more sour with every zooming inch on the pad. "Just search for fries, with a ie.They make them fresh."
Nori had remembered one of Vela's few go to dishes, hoping that they actually fried them here would be tolerable.
Vela did and her face lit up, she added it to the selection and returned the pad to Belle. She leaned into the bench with satisfaction of having pulled through this without the chance to study the menue on prior evening. The aquarium, or rather it's contents caught her attention during the wait. It was packed with all sorts of sealife. Multicoloured fish manoeuvred around pillars of rising bubbles. Tentacles crept over small rocks, glinting eyes in dark little caves. All glittering in the UV-laden blue-teal lights on top.

Well. It seems to work on cubic blocks. Now I just need to make different geometries for these cultures. I'll look into geometry nodes. I used particle systems in the past but I guess geonodes are the way to go now. #3dart #blender

Finagling with mega-texture and materials that apply textures depending on angles, steered via color ramp. For Alliance mega-buildings. I plan to do Consortium next. The texture is lovingly slapped together in Krita. I probably could do way better there now that the spaghetti stand.
