It’s surprisingly (frustratingly!) unsung in Methodist churches, especially given the Charles Wesley of it all (and it’s one of my favorites). The UMH has five verses on a spread and then the full 14 on the page, with a footnote about Charles’ legacy, including John and Isaac Watts.

John Wesley ended his obituary tribute to his brother Charles at the Methodist Conference in 1788: "His least praise was, his talent for poetry: although Dr. [Isaac] Watts did not scruple to say that 'that single poem, Wrestling Jacob, was worth all the verses he himself had written.'" A little over two weeks after his brother's death, John Wesley tried to teach the hymn at Bolton, but broke down when he came to the lines "my company before is gone, and I am left alone with thee." The poem was first published in the brothers' Hymns and Sacred Poems of 1742, expounding Genesis 32:24-32, influenced by Matthew Henry's exposition.

My gf bought me tickets to Jurassic Park: In Concert for my birthday this year because it’s one of my favorite movies and that day we decided to dress up at Satler and Grant. His performance just sells everything in that’s movie so well.

Not to fully dispute these numbers, but I’m wondering about the sample size here. Even from 1,055 LGBTQ adults, 111 trans/nonbinary adults feels small to extrapolate to “nearly 1 out of every 10 trans adults has moved states.” I don’t think the survey text itself extrapolates as much as the image.

Methodology
This brief describes the results of a national survey of 1,055 LGBTQ adults (ages 18+) in the United States, including 111 transgender and nonbinary adults. This online survey was conducted by NORC's AmeriSpeak panel and ran May 29 - June 13, 2025. Funded and operated by NORC at the University of Chicago, AmeriSpeak® is a probability-based panel designed to be representative of the US household population.
Randomly selected US households are sampled with a known, non-zero probability of selection from the NORC National Sample Frame, and then contacted by US mail, email, telephone, and field interviewers (face to face). AmeriSpeak panelists participate in NORC studies or studies conducted by NORC on behalf of governmental agencies, academic researchers, and media and commercial organizations.

• 43% of transgender people have considered moving to a different state, compared to 25% of all LGBTQ people.
• And, 9% of transgender people report they've actually moved to a different state since November 2024, as have
5% of all LGBTQ people.

NEARLY 1 IN 10 TRANSGENDER PEOPLE REPORT MOVING TO A NEW STATE
As shown in Figure 1, nearly one in 10 (9%) transgender adults in the survey have moved to a different state due to LGBTQ-related laws or politics, as have 5% of LGBTQ adults. Again, given that the survey only covered a relatively short time frame of November 2024 to June 2025, this is a remarkable impact.

I said this on other platforms but I feel like Bluesky needs it the most. Trans people especially have to take some deep breaths, read past the headlines, and go take care of ourselves and each other in our daily lives.

Yes, that would be the most recent Gallup survey on LGBTQ+ identification, which gives 1.3% trans IDs. It’s certainly a pretty big difference in estimate, but it feels like we’re still at the beginning to trying to do this research well too.
