A beautiful bloom at the tropical botanical garden, reminds me of a bamboo orchids, arundina graminfolia, but pretty sure it’s something else.
A video from a couple of hours ago. The rain still continues through the night. Notice my ohia tree, it was very full and bushy but now multiple branches have broken from hurricane Lala’s gusts.
And the dendrobium orchid that just appeared on my tree one day blooms again.
Episode 52 of Kilauea volcano, taken on Tuesday night about 10 pm. i just used my phone so not as great a photo, but it was impressive. I’ve heard it was 600 ft high. I’ve seen higher, but this was a very wide fountain.
Found this little guy on one of my orchids when I checked if they needed watering. I’m calling him lizard because I never remember which are geckos and which are anoles. Guessing anole, but I’ve been wrong before.
Does this poster with Shakespeare count as celebrity pic? He would be an interesting therapist - so many apt comments he could make. He seems like he is tuned into the human condition.
Appleware dishes from my mother and grandmother - why would I spend to replace it when I have settings for 10 and every possible style of serving bowl and platter?
It’s International Waterfall Day so here’s a waterfall on Jeju Island in South Korea that I visited in May.
I want to share this awesomely huge black butterfly I recently saw in Mokpo, South Korea. Probably a spangle butterfly (Papilio protenor) or the long tail spangle (Papilio macilentus), but I don’t really know. Super cool tho.
A beautiful beginning to a day that turned out quite fine. My orange Oncidium orchid is going strong.
One of my favorite things about living on Hawai’i: parking lot orchids.
My indoor orchids in bloom, nicely reflected in a mirror. Also allowing me to show off my shower mosaic.
I’m feeling like Bluesky could use some flowers tonight and these are some from my garden that I gathered to make this arrangement.
These are very light rocks but falling from high up as you drive towards them. Ash and glass, mostly small but some larger.
Thought you might like my view from lunch Saturday. This is from the Volcano House restaurant in the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. We walked through falling tephra to our car, crunching what was underfoot. Our car was littered with rocks. We drove out just before the highway and park shut down.
We were there today. The episode is awesome. We left just before they closed the park and the highway. Drove slowly through the falling rocks.
Sometimes when things seem overwhelming it helps me to remember the awesome power of the earth. Kilauea volcano was erupting today and I had the privilege to experience Pele’s majesty.
