My early morning PS5 session saw me continue to have my timbers shivered in Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced A beautiful game and I'm loving all the treasure hunting but I'm not enjoying the combat (especially at sea) much. Feels a bit clunky. Maybe it's my old man reflexes

'Cuts' was a fun, yet frustrating read. Albert felt underwritten and 50% of the book featured too many interchangeable characters talking literature and adultery. Probably the weakest Laymon I've read yet it still had moments I really enjoyed. It'd be nice to see Lisa again.

Ready or Not 2 offered more of the same. It was an enjoyable, pacey movie but I'd have liked a bit more meat to the Elites. They are pretty rubbish and dispatched far too easily. Hopefully, a third movie ups the plot and the stakes. Samara Weaving was excellent throughout.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy felt more like an Evil Dead film than Lee Cronin's Evil Dead which felt like a Demons movie. It was enjoyable enough but the odd wake/Grandmother scenes were out of place. Loved the cinematography and look forward to whatever Cronin does next.

Hellraiser 2022 is a good movie. It takes a few liberties with the lore but I'm assuming Clive Barker approved the plot. The main issue is that the movie is too dark. Why hide the beautiful grotesque?

Just finished Toxic Avenger. I can see why they vaulted this for so long. I wasn't expecting Alan Carr's dad, Eastenders actresses and Dawn from Gavin & Stacey Movie felt badly cut Original Troma had an unsophisticated charm in its amateurishness this felt like a tax write off

Balance 020: Deetron (2011) Technically excellent but this kinda passed me by. It's the first Balance mix that I thought was self indulgent. I can't quite put my finger on why. Definitely needs a relisten. Best Track: Shit Robot - Losing My Patience (Unabombers Remix)

Balance 019: Henry Saiz (2011) The first disc is exceptionally good. I'd not heard of Henry Saiz before, but they are now on the list of artists I need to look into more. Best Track: Tyrane - King Of The Invisible Land (Henry Saiz's We Are The Music Makers 303 Remix)

Balance 018: Nick Warren (2011) This was superb across both discs. Nicely melodic, occasionally aggressive and constantly engaging. I noticed a couple of clunky transitions but nothing could spoil this feast for the ears. Best Track: Solee - Aragorn

I enjoyed Terrifier 3 even though it was too long with a paper thin plot. Glorious practical effects kept my interest as did the performance by David Howard Thornton. Story was poor but some eyewatering setpieces were engaging enough to forgive that and the dubious acting.

Balance 017: Timo Maas (2010) Painfully uninspiring. It felt like the same beat was being faded in and out of the mix. For me, tracks went on too long and didn't offer any real excitement nor journey. Best Track: William Orbit - Nimrod (Timo Maas & Santos Remix)

Balance 016: Agoria (2009) Playing with many genres proved a little too much for Disc 1, which felt somewhat messy. Disc 2 was much better though, offering a less experimental experience. It just lacked that 'spark' Best Track: Aufgang - Sonar (Spitzer Remix)

Balance 014: Joris Voorn (2009) Now this is how to do a downtempo/minimal mix. I loved those horn, harmonica and rain sounds hidden in the background. Was that a Pink Floyd sample early on? That Secret Field, Todd Terje remix was so good but Best Track: Heliosphan - Aphex Twin

Balance 013: SOS (2008) Decent melodies and some lovely synths aren't enough to elevate this much above background music. The highlights are all remixes of older 'retro" tracks from Roxy Music, The Cure and Imagination. Best Track: Just An Illusion (Lindstrøm Dub) - Imagination

Balance 012: Lee Burridge (2007) Whilst I didn't really enjoy this mix, it had more tracks vying for "best' than previous with Lazy Fat People, Hug, Lady In Pink, H-Man, Paul Ritch and Patrice Bäumel all worthy of attention Best Track: Adios Ayer (Paul Daley Mix) - José Padilla
