Edens hoax
The fire gave rise to a hoax. Because three-year-old Mary Edens's body was not recovered, her parents hoped that she had somehow survived the fire. In 1957, Grace Reynolds of Barstow, California came forward, claiming to be the long-lost child.[7] Reynolds and the Edens family were reunited on the air during an episode of the Art Linkletter's House Party television program.[7] Reynolds later wrote a book about her experiences entitled Mary, Child of Tragedy: The Story of the Lost Child of the 1924 Babbs Switch Fire.[15][16] A local newspaper editor knew the story to be fraudulent, but withheld the information until 1999 at the request of Mary Edens's father, who believed his wife could not endure losing her child a second time.[7]

"So, this is the part that really made my skin crawl...
After your eyes adjust to the light from the screen I noticed that there's maybe about 8 guys in the theater and about 30 seats all these guys are proportionately spaced - sorta. I didn't want to sit next to anyone, really. So, I walk over the sticky floor to the front of the room and sit in the second row, OK Big Penis in my face. So, I move a back a little, a couple of rows. About 10 minutes go by and suddenly everybody's playing musical chairs. This guy sits right next to me and I think I stopped breathing for a moment then I got up and moved over about two seats, the guy gets up and sits next to me AGAIN. So, I got up and moved further back in another row, this time about one seat over from another guy because by this time EVERYONE kinda moved closer to each other - except for the guy passed out in one of the seats. Oh, and the guy that everyone was avoiding cause he had turrets and got up every few minutes and screamed at the movie - Creee-py."

My daughter has asked for an actual CD player for her birthday. Currently reading reviews.

A one-star review for a portable CD player that reads: "I have not been able to use this CD player because it is emitting a colorless and almost undetectable gas that sticks to your flesh. I first opened it up and began to explore the CD player then realized it was irritating my eyes, nose and mouth. I repackaged it quickly and assumed it was a new product smell, that would soon escape as the new plastic cures. I noticed that it arrived in a heavy duty paper bag. Had it been in a non porous plastic bag the bag may have expanded like a balloon. Who knows? I want to keep the CD player but I do not plan to reopen the package until it seems safe. If the situation does not subside I will discard the product as if it were toxic waste. For the few moment that it was open it seemed to be well packaged and well made. I will eventually open it outside when the weather is a bit warmer. It was packaged in bubble rap, maybe it was a reaction between two non compatible polymers. For now I can not recommend this product, nor report on it's functionality."

The 50s flying saucer craze happened because our government was flying experimental German WWII aircraft. The first saucer sighted in 1947 wasn't saucer-shaped; per a witness, it flew erratically like a saucer skipping on water. First image is a WWII Nazi Horten Ho 229. 2nd image is the saucer.
