I tell stories. Podcasts: THE BEST STUFF IN THE WORLD: GLEAMING THE TUBE:
The first few chapters of Daphne du Maurier’s novel Rebecca are very good but holy shit does this book kick into high gear once Mrs. Danvers shows up in Chapter Seven.
Absolutely loved Black Swan at the A.R.T. in Cambridge. Dream ballets! Fucked up psychological situations! A downer ending that's framed as a triumph! Inventive staging! Amazing dancing and choreography! One of the best shows I've seen there.
R.I.P. Marjane Satrapi. Persepolis is a masterpiece and Planet Earth is a shittier place without her.
Happy Star Wars Day from this 2004 photo of me and Anthony “C-3P0” Daniels. Mr. Daniels, upon seeing my “Han Shot First” t-shirt, told me I should “fucking get over it.”
Last night's viewing! My 9-year-old son Alexander asked to watch a Charlie Chaplin movie so we fired this one up. For a movie that is over 100 years old, most of the comedy in this one still hits. Alexander preferred the wacky cabin scenes to the romance stuff with Georgia Hale in the middle.
Last night's viewing! The number of things that had to go right for this movie to be any good at all is staggering and the fact that Peter Jackson and his talented crew and cast managed to create one of the greatest fantasy movies of all time is nothing short of astounding.
Tonight’s viewing! Fucked up and mesmerizing. Isabelle Huppert gives the performance of a lifetime. Not a feel-good movie.
"He's just another another member of the Kitty Pryde Low Self-Esteem Mistake Parade" is the greatest line of dialogue @brianmbendis.bsky.social ever wrote.
Just recorded a really cool podcast interview with the great Hudson Leick, who played Callisto on Xena: Warrior Princess. We honestly didn't talk about Xena that much, it wound up being a kind of deep, intense discussion about spirituality, aging, empathy, creativity and more. Out soon!
The science fiction convention I’m DJing at tonight has a little display of vintage fanzines. Fanzines got their start in sci-fi fandom but all right-thinking people know the fanzine was perfected by the punk rock scene. Still, nice to see the history. @boskone.bsky.social
If you’re going to the @boskone.bsky.social convention in Boston next month come see me DJ! Friday, Feb 13th! I’m going to play so many New Order songs you guys!!!!
Tonight’s viewing! Beautifully shot, great performances, worth paying a babysitter to see it in 70mm. Still turning it over in my head.
Post four TV couples you love (both actual relationships and profound yearning are acceptable) I am doing this twice. I like too much tv.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! Santa put this in my stocking - what LAFFS will it contain?!? (Of course I’m hoping for Perfect Strangers.)
“You’ll be visited by three spirits” The three spirits:
What perfect album came out the year you turned 16?
if you see this, post 4 female characters you love
R.I.P. to the great Diane Keaton, whose performances in Reds, Annie Hall, The Godfather, Love and Death, and so many others are among the best ever done in movies by anyone. She could break your heart and make you laugh, often at the same time. An absolute legend.
The Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline is one of only four places in the world screening ONE BATTLE ANOTHER in VistaVisiion so what kind of movie nerd would I be if I didn’t check it out? Totally phenomenal - Wowee zowee what a great film!
Hiked up a hill to this stone tower. Should we storm it?
My 10 year old daughter's review of SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL: It was good. Watts was the best character. I like the story in general and how it's about that it doesn't matter how much money you have to be a good person. Keith was stupid to not realize how cool Watts is. I didn't like all the kissing.
Tonight's viewing! “All I care about in this goddam life are me, my drums, and you!”
Pretty sweet haul at my LCS today. @kellysue.bsky.social is killing it on FML (the punk rock comics content I need!), gave into the hype on the new Batman relaunch - @popheist.com review swayed me - and a facsimile of one of the most bizarre issues of the Kirby/Lee FF run. Hooray for comics!
My daughter and I have been watching episodes of Xena: Warrior Princess lately and I'm continually amazed by how awesome this completely bonkers show is. My only complaint is how crummy the standard definition transfers that are on streaming platforms look. My kingdom for a high-def remaster!
