Mostly posts about politics & health care with a bit of theatre, tennis, MCU and Star Wars. Arizonan. Rejected by multiple insurers pre-ACA and OH MY GOD, ARE WE DOING THIS AGAIN FOR REAL? Still #SaltingTheVibes in indoor public spaces.
ACCOUNTABILITY POST: Planning to take July 4th and 5th off of news and social media. If you see me here on Sat or Sun, please tell me to go touch grass!
And no, I'm not the person who posted this on FB, but... #JesusChristSuperstar #JCS
Spelling aside, this is the crossover we NEEDED today in Old Town Scottsdale, AZ #nokings
Phoenix area peeps: if you need a rest from... ::gestures broadly:: ...go, go, go see this show. I bawled my eyes out through the whole show and all the way home. It's a single-act shortened version of the Broadway show, but it still packs ALL the feels.
Meanwhile, our local paper of record is still on the mythical check beat. It's unbelievably irresponsible. They ran DOZENS of stories about when the DOGE checks were coming, & never offered a single mea culpa when (as should've been obvious) it turned out to be BS. www.azcentral.com/story/news/p...
My book group read Monica Wood's "The One-in-a-Million Boy" this month. (😭) I went to look up a specific thing 2 see if it was real or fictional. The AI summary popped up, & it got the "young protagonist's" name wrong. It's NOT Quinn. PSA: Don't ever use Google AI to bluff your way thru book group.
For all the hand-wringing about kids not reading these days, my 14-year-old nephew loaned me his Project Hail Mary book (it was brilliant), and he loved Redshirts by @scalzi.com so much that he bought me a copy for Christmas. I'm 2 chapters in and hooked!
This bit on Mark Brnovich from the Arizona Republic's Editorial Board was written in 2023 (which means that even Phil Boas signed off): www.azcentral.com/story/opinio...
I'm going to see Book of Mormon next week, so I'm choosing to interpret this as the entertaining type of "theatrical" as opposed to the politicians claiming they're going to "save health care" and then not doing shit type of "theatrical".
I won't spoil it, but if you are streaming #WickedForGood, hit pause just as Michelle Yeoh starts singing "calumnies and lies" and look to the right, so you don't miss one of the funniest easter eggs ever.
Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn’t Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.
Especially infuriating to see local media - who SHOULD be a trusted source of information - spreading the disinformation even further. This showed up in my feed this week.
Best responses on Facebook to the aptly name Crapo-Cassidy plan to "replace" (air quotes) the expiring ePTCs. Would love for Cassidy to be interviewed by someone who actually understands what HSAs do and what they don't do and who gets that the whole "shopping around" thing is complete bullshit.
I read this article late last night & didn't even take in the full impact of Bill Cassidy's bullshit on "shopping for x-rays". He specifically wants the "MORE EXPENSIVE" people to have to shop around for needed care. The potential logistics of this are really dumb, but it's ALSO incredibly cruel.
1/5 I'm hearing a lot of talking points from Republicans that the premium pain caused by expiring enhanced premium tax credits shows that "Obamacare doesn't work". So I thought I'd highlight my premiums and subsidies since 2018 for a Bronze plan. *2021 subsidy started in June.
A public service announcement for elected officials as well as journalists covering the expiration of the ACA's enhanced premium tax credits*: *The print would have been too tiny if I'd added "for coverage starting on January 1."
Yes, 100%.This is the headline from my local news station, and of COURSE all the comments are along the lines of "WE TOLD YOU THE SHOTS WERE POISON".
My insurer (Ambetter) sent out the DUMBEST letter on Oct. 31: "[Y]our new premium is estimated to be $792.10. Here's the math: Monthly premium of $1019.10 minus $227 of possible help." Yes, they referred to the enhanced PTCs (which Dems were fighting for AS THE LETTER WENT OUT) as "possible help".
Tennis is canceled because the courts are still soggy, but honestly, a hot beverage and my comfort book isn't the *worst* way to spend a chilly Arizona Sunday morning.
The whole world is awful, but I "couldn't be happier" for 1/2 day off work Thurs. to see Wicked: For Good. Just need to figure out whether an N95 or KN95 will best absorb all the flowing tears w/o breaking down. #WickedForGood I'll catch up on the newest bullshit health care "plan" when I get back.
THIS IS NOT A DRILL, PEOPLE!!! The whole world is awful, but I went into Fry's yesterday to buy a birthday card, and stumbled upon a giant displsy of LITTLE DEBBIE CHRISTMAS TREE CAKES! I've had to order them online for the last 3 years. (Kinda odd, though, that they expire on Dec. 10).
Ugh, looks like they are moving forward with options #1 and #2 with only McAllen and Whitehead voting no. And there was absolutely no discussion about Kirk's hatemongering - just that some council members wanted a more formal structure for who is eligible for a memorial & how long after their death.
I've seen some accounts that I follow complain about PACER. I need a document for work, and it looks like the max cost per document is only $3 and at first I was all, hey, that's not so bad, but then it turns out I can't actually get the document until they mail me something in 7-10 business days. 🤦♀️
When Shrek and Pikachu are jamming to Boston's Peace of Mind, ya gotta stop and watch. #NoKings Scottsdale, AZ
