We always called the Zoo in St. Louis the "Oon."

Never in a million years would I have thought that the Sinon plot was about Brexit / the war on terror. No idea what she’s talking about here!

Odysseus' lie to Sinon doesn't start the Trojan War, and the Trojans would presumably have taken the horse into the city anyway - as they do in Homer's Odyssey. This muddled subplot is foisted on the film in order to make Nolan's relentlessly didactic point about the contemporary Anglophone world: that the lies and xenophobia of the war on terror and Brexit began a cultural decline that is now destroying the values 'we' hold most dear.

In short, I said, events like Columbine are influenced far less by violent movies than by CNN, the NBC Nightly News and all the other news media, who glorify the killers in the guise of "explaining" them.

TBH I still don’t understand what happened. Didn’t he say “I was not paid for this content”?

MS NOW requested an interview with Kralemann on Thursday evening, asking about the video and whether it was part of a paid campaign.
Kralemann immediately removed his posts and declined, adding a statement that said in part:
"Shortly after posting, I realized it did not meet the standards I've set for my platform, so I removed it."
Kralemann told MS NOW in an email, "I was not paid for this content," but he did not return an email asking whether he had been offered compensation for the original post.

@Margaret Melville In my experience, having spent a lot of time with college students and the parents who pay their tuition, you can believe something is broken with our higher education system and most definitely not be "anti-education."

As one of Mamdani's professors told me for this article, there's no question that faculty overwhelmingly skew left. And we can't ignore the fact that a lot of people find that uniformity troubling. Most colleges seemed to be doing little about that until the Trump administration forced them to -- by exceeding their authority and violating the Constitution in many cases, of course. Then you have many academics saying the groupthink isn't a real issue.

When a society's institutions start to fail, it's often because they lose credibility with the people they serve. I know a lot of leaders of higher education who are really paying attention to that now.
