The algo served me this one on one those platforms I can’t quite bring myself to leave… and it feels right. So here is Devin Kelly’s poem “All That Wanting, Right?” As published in HAD 2023, for my second #sealeychallenge contribution.
I’m just learning now about the #sealeychallenge! Since I’m travelling for another week and a half, I think I will do sporadic shares from my Instagram story archives and poets I recollect. The first one Dannie Abse’s “Mysteries” - discovered in the stack of prints at London Transport Museum shop.
A commenter on the Reddit post sharing this Ars Technica item re: latest horrifying case of Grok and CSAM contained very actionable advice for those of us wanting to light a fire under the ass of government bodies/agencies still posting to The Bad Place.
As a 1.5 gen immigrant, here now over 30 years - this bad faith practice of politics is the most profound betrayal of the highest teachings of the many people whose generosity and wisdom shaped my and my families’ fortunes and time here. To say I’m disappointed is putting it very mildly.
It is cruel and unusual for the Gubbins makers to give me a sticker for a meme I’m too old and square to use properly! Anyways sorry to anyone who would know exactly what the right thing to do with “pk fire” is, please accept this nautical giggle instead.
@movementyvr.bsky.social you may be interested to know that FIFA’s breaking WB R5 connection to Canada Line. :|Taking the Expo Line one stop to do the long walk is such an inconvenience, I literally just walked to Granville/Hastings from Burrard Station.
Took my first @cyclingwithoutage.bsky.social community ride at Pacific Spirit Parm today. Just spectacular. Thanks @moritherapy.bsky.social for keeping me company! Got to learn about the wonderful work the pilots are doing and the growth of the group here in Vancouver.
My partner has an annual summer tradition of making turkey, strawberry and brie sandwiches with mint. I may have now unwittingly made a case for doing these sandwiches with rhubarb rye bread from now on! The tanginess is surprisingly pleasant, though it’s definitely more dense than a sourdough.
For however much longer (days? weeks?) the temporary space is in place for, Hastings Sunrise has an above average amount of pedesteianizrd public plaza and sitting space. ❤️
That’s the exact same thing what I said about these wisteria in my hood. (Or rather, “this would be the picture that would be best with smell-o-vision.”)
I saw an absolutely epic magnolia tree in my neighborhood a couple weeks ago and this skeet is the best pairing for it.
I am just a simple Vancouverite in the springtime this year, and I will absolutely not apologize for it.
(Here is a screenshot of a jade pendant with the character being used in a group of four which helped me get clarity on the bottom half of the character to search it.)
A visualization of all the bad news, setbacks and uncertainty in every domain of my life right now.
Adaptations after 4+ days of fog: (1) I mentally refer to visibility in “blocks” and “half blocks”. These are, of course, Vancouver blocks (larger than downtown Portland blocks on both sides) and a horribly inconsistent measure. (2) I watch for perched crows shaking dew off their tail feathers.
Marking my first time, I think, passing the sturdy bottom pie crust challenge (with a rye blended crust for a smoked salmon quiche). No heroic challenge picture, alas.
Still basking in how pretty this looked in the sunshine even for my work from home day. @loxy.bsky.social ‘s hobby / side hustle has brought me (and others) much delight
I saw this while out and about at the end of the year. I have no idea what it’s for but it caught my eye.
Seeing folks lament the late start to the ski season. I’m nowhere near as big on snow sports (my partner is rather disappointed he won’t get to wring more visits out of his season pass) but there’s a little climate doomer in me that can’t help be a bit of a snit about it…
I think it is safe to say, I like polenta cakes. It barely made a dent in my plum stash though… so that’s what the jam project will be for.
Between Hank Green taking about the evolutionary hurdles overcome by fish to form land-based fish, Spooky Lake Month, and Sam Reich being inspired by Homestar Runner, I Want to Believe (in the Weird Internet).
Tonight, I salute the past me that froze portions of black beans and mole sauce, so that we could have mole chicken on rice with roast Italian peppers and red kuri squash. I also salute my brother who gifted us Lizano sauce he picked up in Costa Rica and now we have a new flavour to play with.
First time making ratatouille. With fresh tomatoes, the prettiest striped eggplant and some other leftover veg odds and sods, and even with no fresh herbs, this worked out very nicely. (And the chicken liver in the sauce? Well, nutritional needs also nicely met.)
The Street and Traffic By-Law is pretty clear: a vehicle is not to be parked within 5m of either side of a crosswalk. Even though a lane intersection does not count as a crosswalk, taller vehicles parked by lanes / alleys affect (speeding) cars’ sightlines into cyclists in the travel lane too. 2/5
I’m getting fed up and need to vent here. Drivers regularly park their vehicles in my neighbourhood in ways that jeopardize vulnerable road users. Combined with people who routinely shortcut on residential streets while speeding, this is a recipe for tragedy. 1/5
Continuing these theme with potato rösti, tomatoes, rainbow chard and patty pan squash from the CSA box, paired with IKEA pickled herring in mustard (no assembly required). Cameo appearance by some tiny shallots from the winter I stuck in some dirt on my balcony for the summer. (And applesauce.)
Here’s a data point: the 2023 Tour De Cure for PM2.5 was in the red when they officially called their ride off, and the participants I was following in CAN99 facemasks. My screen cap of the AirMap was in my memories a couple days ago.
These spiralized (aka rotato cut) golden beets we stuck on our sablefish tacos are 🌀mesmerizing 🌀.
