A wonderful performance and a great way for Alexander Shelley to end his 11 year tenure here in Ottawa.
Reminds me of the August Sander photos of German working class people in the interwar period. All were identified only by their occupation. Below the Pastry Chef.
Tonight at the Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre in Ottawa, Haydn’s The Creation. A gorgeous oratorio.
I am the same way with Bitches Brew but I am even more retrograde. Nor do I like the 1960s Quintet very much. Great Miles ends with Someday My Prince Will Come. The melodic Miles seems to slowly dissipate after the early Columbia recordings.
Last night in Vienna. My final Tosca performance and it was the best one yet. All the principals put on the best performances. Anna Netrebko was at her best. Thank you, Vienna. It was a great holiday.
Tonight the Vienna Philharmonic at the Muzikverein under Simon Rattle performing Mahler 9th . What a hall and what a performance.
For me, the canonical version is the one Monk recorded in 1947 and was released by Blue Note records on Genius of Modern Music Volume1. I say that because Monk is the composer and this is his first recording. That’s just me though…
Best show of my week in Vienna so far. The soloist or note perfect. Simon Bocanegra has one of those massive Verdi choruses that is staggering when fully utilized. A brilliant night. The pictures are the chorus at the curtain call and the soloists with conductor.
Tonight at the Vienna State Opera. Verdi’s Simon Bocanegra. It has been decades since I have seen a production of this. Looking forward to it.
Tosca again tonight with Anna Netrebko. Photo is of the lobby from the third floor level.
Had a wonderful at the Kunsthistorische Museum in Vienna. Truly, one of the world‘s great art galleries. My only regret is that the room with the mature Titians was closed today
Anna Netrebko had the house in the palm of her hand. Her “Vissi d’arte” was tremendous and the applause was long & well deserved. The Cavaradosi Ivan Gingazov’s “Recondita Armonia” was brilliant & the Scarpia Christopher Maltman was suitably menacing. Great evening. #annanetrebko #wienerstaatsoper
A top notch performance. Great singing actors specially PeterMattei and Christoff Fischesser as Gurnemanz. A great Gurnemanz can be hypnotic and he was. The costumes seemed to borrow from the nudes of Egon Schiele. I will have to read further on that. A tremendous evening all around.
Act 1 of Parsifal has just ended. What a wonderful performance. Peter Mattei is a stunning Amfortas. So glad I am here. My bum is killing me, though. Five hours on a train plus a two hour act one I am hurting. My poor neighbour is very tolerant. #bayerischestaatsoper #parsifal
Tonight at the NAC in Ottawa. A wonderful Liebestod by the Orchestra. Off to Europe tomorrow. First performance that I will see will be Parsifal at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
Agreed. The title track is the highlight of the album. I think I’ll pull out the mega box issued about nine years ago for this era of Crimson for tonight. Here is the track listing.
Tonight’s before and after supper music. It’s been a while since I played Burning Spear. Great album.
