Wondering how @rideact.bsky.social flagship BRT line 1T is doing? It's in crisis. During PM weekday rush hour it regularly provides actual service headways of >35 minutes. A BRT line with significant dedicated lane mileage struggling to run more than 1 bus an hour. ac-transit.com/route/?week_...
Adopted bus bunching work by Sal Khan (sal-khan.com/bus-bunching...) shared to me by @ansonstewart.com See updated @rideact.bsky.social performance metrics: ac-transit.com/report-card/
@rideact.bsky.social service delivery has begun to slip, especially in recent weeks: kuanbutts.com/actransit_pe... Would like to see transparency on the situation & reactive modifications to address from ACT staff, our representatives.
Also not sure I have posted this publicly but re: absenteeism I did make a NextRequest and got some shocking stats back from ACT: actransit.nextrequest.com/requests/26-... Over 10 yrs: ~5-10 percent more drivers, 10 percent less service & w/ 25% of current number of bus hours not run (but planned)
My performance stats are calculated daily, rolled up weekly. Here is last week: kuanbutts.com/actransit_pe... About ~29% of service was not delivered and there wait times consistently (at least once per hour on a weekday, for example) breaching 30 minutes throughout the day.
Yesterday less than 3/4 of scheduled trips were actually driven for the 12 and less than half were on time: kuanbutts.com/actransit_pe...
I asked yesterday and he suggested it was others calling it a hit piece. I don't know if that's just what he is saying now or if that is indeed what he originally intended.
I think it looks fine if clustered - there's an example on Clement in Alameda, for example: maps.app.goo.gl/nLiPk2yrB7Xc... that is way nicer than its more "standard" SFH neighbors and I find this far superior.
Added a "report card" view to kuanbutts.com/actransit_pe... for @rideact.bsky.social with up-to-the-day score on trailing-month performance. Scores designed to reflect user experience / actual system utility over technical compliance metrics that operators usually report out.
Are you just using the circle draw tool in side editor in geojson.io? I just tried right now and it looked like it worked? Maybe workflow being checked is different, though?
Starting to process years of AC Transit data into useful dashboards. Weekly/daily OTP stats: kuanbutts.com/actransit_pe... - Much higher dropped service on weekends - Rush hour delays are widespread, consistent - Delays consistent across routes, impacting reliability as a bridge to BART
Noteworthy and alarmng from @rideact.bsky.social ridership report: key AC Transit routes show continually plummeting ridership (nearly 10% YoY in some cases) after Realign roll out. This occurring amidst broader regional uptick in transit use. actransit.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=...
Big fan of @geology.bsky.social / Deeper Oakland blogs; enjoyed today's post. Live Oak park is indeed really special - was one of the few upsides when I worked in N Berkeley for a few years in the 2010s.
Why is the dev server for @alamedacountyca.bsky.social open to the public? 166.107.72.104/auditor/
I went in circles with an off by one error and brute forced the answer by one thinking about one "click" at a time. Somehow kept ending up off by a handful when trying to use modulo and not enough brain cells left for the year to determine why.
Continues to be appalling that there is no bus express lane on the Bay Bridge. Current TransBay #ACTransit bus is stuck in mixed traffic, is going to take 1.5 hours to do a ~20 min ride. Why do we punish transit riders by making them suffer through single occupancy vehicle traffic?
Now @rideact.bsky.social has two apps on the Paly store. Unclear why they released a new app vs updated the current (which is plagued with issues on Android).
Ok: 1) vibe coding is pretty fun & ridiculous - you make unmaintainable slop super fast 2) @val.town is super fun for making quick & dirty DIY backends 3) @rideact.bsky.social desperately needs to efficiently cache their GTFS/RT data kuanbutts.com/actransit/
Transit service levels in downtown Oakland on a Friday at rush hour. Maddening levels of dysfunction.
Rush hour on a Friday and this is the bus service level in downtown Oakland connecting around the lake and to popular Fri evening destinations (Grand Lake). Totally useless.
What fresh hell is this? In the Oakland budget survey being sent out - paving and safety upgrades were funded through Measure U - why are they being sent to the choppy block when the general budget is in turmoil?
Timely given this was my treatment for using the bus in downtown Oakland this evening. It's clear Council lacks a strong grasp of what the day to day experience of transit dependency is like - something that significantly impacts the daily lived experience of residents they purport to advocate for.

Appreciate seeing the bump in #ACTransit TransBay bus service to address crowding issues on some routes. Hoping we can keep adding more service to other lines as well. Ease of use will increase ridership, too.
Appreciate the highlighting of the fact that businesses owners are not a monolith and many readily support right sizing roads for ped and cyclist safety. splashpad.org/grand-ave-ca...
