Here's the message I sent by email to management@gmaesdonequick.com just now. I encourage anyone troubled by their collaboration with Saudi Arabia to send a message with similar sentiments to this email address. @gamesdonequick.com, clean house now or lose legitimacy forever.

Dear Games Done Quick management,

I am saddened and frankly baffled by the decision to enter into a partnership with SNK at this time. SNK is owned and operated by the theocratic government of Saudi Arabia. That government is responsible for numerous crimes against humanity both domestically and abroad - bombing hospitals, oppressing queer life, and murdering journalists.

The House of Saud operates SNK as part of their sports-washing strategy to launder their loathsome reputation and attract investments that bolster their soft and hard power. GDQ partnering with the puppet-husk of SNK in exchange for Saudi blood money tarnishes GDQ's reputation as advocates for MSF, for queer rights worldwide, and for human dignity. It also plays into the House of Saud's goals of whitewashing their continued atrocities.

I have been an ardent supporter of Games Done Quick for nearly 15 years. I appreciate that GDQ must make difficult decisions when it comes to securing operating funds. However, this partnership is both a moral outrage and deeply corrosive to GDQ's ability to maintain its legitimacy and its relationship with donors.

I expect a swift and comprehensive apology, an explanation for why this stupid and despicable decision was made, and for the people responsible for this decision to vacate their positions and make room for smarter and more moral decision-makers.

They're at an elevated risk, yes, compared to the cisgender population. But 271 murders between 2008 and 2020 is still not a very large number and must be carefully weighed against the risks of keeping a gun in the home or on your person.

A 2017 analysis published by Alexis Dinno in the American Journal of Public Health attempted to estimate the transgender murder rate using homicide data from the Transgender Day of Remembrance and National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, along with estimates of the overall transgender population in the United States. The study generated a number of potential estimates of the trans murder rate, ranging from around 7 times lower than the rate for cis people (assuming no undercounting of trans murders, and a trans prevalence of 0.6% of the population) up to 4 times higher (assuming 80% of trans murders are not accounted for, and a trans prevalence of 0.1%), ultimately concluding that the trans murder rate was "likely to be less than that of cisgender individuals". Dinno described this as a surprising result, given that transgender people are more likely to be financially vulnerable and report experiencing high rates of violence. However, Dinno found that young (aged 15 to 34) black and Latina trans women were "almost certainly" killed at a higher rate than cis women.[13]

A follow-up study in 1998 by Arthur Kellermann

analyzed 626 shootings in three cities. The study found that "For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides."[40]

The Gun Violence Archive. which uses a methodology of counting incidents reported and verified by law enforcement or media, reports substantially lower numbers of defensive qun use in the US than studies based on polls. 1,980 and 2,043 incidents were reported and verified in 2016 and 2017, respectively. [41]
