spokeswoman, declined repeated requests for comment on the president's posts.

Instead, she defended his previous statements about Somali schoolchildren burdening Minnesota's public schools.
"President Trump is right," Ms. Jackson said. "Aliens who come to our country, complain about how much they hate America, fail to contribute to our economy, rip off Americans and refuse to assimilate into our society should not be here. And nothing about that is racist."

Excerpt from AP report: “The video shows an officer shoving a person who is wearing a brown jacket, skirt and black tights and carrying a water bottle. That person reaches out for a man and the two link up, embracing. The man, wearing a brown jacket and black hat, seems to be holding his phone up toward the officer.
The same officer shoves the man in his chest and the two, still embracing, fall back.
The video then shifts to a different part of the street and then comes back to the two individuals unlinking from each other. The video shifts focus again and then shows three officers surrounding the man.
Soon at least seven officers surround the man.
One is on the man's back and another who appears to have a cannister in his hand strikes a blow to the man's chest. Several officers try to bring the man's arms behind his back as he appears to resist. As they pull his arms, his face is briefly visible on camera. The officer with the cannister strikes the man near his head several times.”

This absolutely unhinged quote from the president of the United States is in the 19th paragraph in this article. Barely remarkable! But also just astonishing.

"Well, I don't think we're going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war," the president told reporters at the White House on Thursday. "I think we're just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country, OK? We're going to kill them, you know? They are going to be, like, dead."

Bouie: Just on the question of national media coverage, I think it's important to remember that there's CNN, there's ABC, whatever, but there's also local news affiliates and a lot of this stuff is being covered —

Bouie: Right, and local TV news actually does cover this stuff on the regular because it involves community members, it involves public spaces that people are familiar with. It doesn't even necessarily have to catch on in the national media for people to be aware of this and aware of it — the sense that it's pervasive.

Worth noting that 1898 was the year the U.S. annexed the Philippines, Guam, Cuba and evtl Hawaii. An interesting read on how Filipinos born to parents who’d have been citizens as colonial subjects have fallen thru cracks: www.philstar.com/opinion/2007...

In 1898, the Supreme Court held that birthright citizenship applies to every person born in the United States. The only exceptions are those people who do not fall under the jurisdiction - which is to say, the laws — of the United States. In 1868, at the time the amendment was ratified, that meant foreign diplomats and members of Native tribes.

After several cycles of losing enthusiasm and ground with previously taken for granted constituents, you’d think this would be the only takeaway that matters: he managed to expand the electorate.

Rich Azzopardi, the spokesman, said that the campaign met its turnout goals in key districts and voting groups, particularly among Black and older voters who had a yearslong connection with the former governor. The problem, he said, was that Mr.
Mamdani "ran a campaign that managed to expand the electorate in such a way that no turnout model or poll was able to capture, while the rest of the field collapsed."
