Celebrating today with a bunch of Moroccans in Montreal! Viva immigration and diverse cities full of joy!!
Whew that was a hell of a series!! I’m ready to rep the home team (at the sports bar tho, you’d need a home equity loan to get tix to the garden)!! Go Knicks!
We discovered one that emerged early in the herb plants we brought in from the balcony. Sadly he died before he could see the Spring but we loved him. My son named him Black Magic.
Swallowtail!!! We had one abscond in our balcony herbs we’d brought indoors and emerge early in Feb. we loved him and wished he could have lived till spring. My son named him Black Magic!
Omg Robby just adopt an adorable baby girl instead of driving your bike off a buffalo sacrifice cliff!
In 2004 I was at a cookout with some old friends and some members of their church, all evangelical / born again Christian. And a woman said she thought the US should nuke Iraq and kill every last one of them. So this is what I notice. How many people like and repost his call for genocide.
Best description of the moments preceding the execution of Alex Pretti I’ve seen so far, from AP:
This story features the nurse who saved my son’s life, literally caught his meningitis post transplant so he is now alive, and whose daughter has an incurable brain tumor. Please read, share, and help her fight the clock for a cure.
This absolutely unhinged quote from the president of the United States is in the 19th paragraph in this article. Barely remarkable! But also just astonishing.
You have a budgie!! I have a little flock of 3. They’re my little angels.
To this point: In-language and community centered news owned by and serving immigrants **are** providing this type of coverage. Stay tuned for our upcoming series on how Asian American community news is responding to ICE, surveillance, etc. in Nonprofit Quarterly www.nytimes.com/2025/07/26/o...
Imagine publishing a case for democrats to tack to the right on immigration policy when masked men are disappearing nursing mothers at their court appearances, ICE is assaulting senators and driving through crowds, and hundreds have been sent without due process to be tortured overseas.
Worth noting that 1898 was the year the U.S. annexed the Philippines, Guam, Cuba and evtl Hawaii. An interesting read on how Filipinos born to parents who’d have been citizens as colonial subjects have fallen thru cracks: www.philstar.com/opinion/2007...
After several cycles of losing enthusiasm and ground with previously taken for granted constituents, you’d think this would be the only takeaway that matters: he managed to expand the electorate.
Community media doesn’t always react right away, but the Iranian American community has a robust and extensive media ecosystem. Want to hear from them and hearing crickets from mainstream? Follow their own media: amimap.journalism.cuny.edu
We commemorate this #AAPIHeritageMonth as the US threatens immigrant communities, scholars, and history. How are community archives preserving and protecting Filipino- Japanese- and South Asian American history? Join us June 5 for a virtual event: www.journalism.cuny.edu/events/commu...
Following the massacre of 28 Indian civilians in Kashmir, India has now struck Pakistan. Pakistan plans to respond. Two nuclear powers.
