We did it! 🎉 A Simple Act: Restoring Hardknott Forest is FUNDED. 51 backers have taken us past our £2,750 Kickstarter target, with 10 days still to go. I’m more grateful than I can say. Thank you for believing in the film. Next stop: £3,500 stretch goal.
A little weekend Kickstarter reminder 🌲🎬 A Simple Act is getting closer to the finish line. Huge thanks to everyone who’s backed or shared the film so far. If you’ve been meaning to take a look, here it is: www.kickstarter.com/projects/ony...
Here's the same little peninsula with trees (sadly with the hills behind the in mist) about 9 years ago...
A simple act can change a landscape. Over the past two years I've been filming the remarkable restoration of Hardknott Forest in the Lake District, following the people working to transform a commercial conifer plantation back into native woodland.
One of the privileges of making A Simple Act has been meeting the volunteers behind the Restoring Hardknott Forest Project. Week after week, in every kind of weather, they plant, protect and care for a landscape they know they'll never see fully mature. They're not looking for recognition.
After two years filming through every season in Hardknott Forest, I'm excited to finally share the trailer for A Simple Act. It's a documentary about the people restoring one corner of the Lake District; not for themselves, but for future generations.
After nearly two years of filming, A Simple Act is almost finished. It's a feature documentary about the restoration of Hardknott Forest in the Lake District, but it's really a story about optimism, community and the people working to leave the landscape in a better state for future generations.
New film, with @atomcrowley.bsky.social who fortunately survived this moment, out now! LINK: youtu.be/NELkqpigFYQ
A new Lake District Films video coming soon! This one follows a wonderful circuit of Crummock Water with writer, comedian and podcaster Tom Crowley, taking in Rannerdale Knotts, spring bluebells and some of the finest scenery in the Lake District. The full film on YouTube at midday on Friday.
NEW FILM PREMIERES FRIDAY! Join me for a spectacular 9.5-mile circular walk around Crummock Water, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District.
The iconic white dot of Char Cottage, Buttermere from the route up to Rannerdale Knotts.
Afternoon, mountain chums ⛰️ If you’re in That London this Friday, come along to PEEKABOO at Seven Dials Playhouse (1A Tower Street, near Cambridge Circus). I’m performing as one of four acts in a night of completely unscripted improv. Four acts. One stage. Zero plan.
Had a fantastic night, last night at the iconic @pinewoodstudios.bsky.social where my film Show Up and Start: The Art and Life of Dorothy Ramsay was nominated for Best Feature Documentary at the Lift-Off Global Network Season Awards.
Lovely wood to work with. Made a pair of lamps out of ash a few years ago:
Honoured and honestly a bit blown away to share that Show Up and Start has been nominated for Best Feature Doc at the Lift-Off Season Awards. Huge thank you to everyone who helped make the film, supported the journey, and believed in the project from day one. #LiftOffSeasonAwards #IndieFilm

As Christmas approaches, it’s time for a flashback to when Editorial Support Cat, Sisu, was newly out of Wood Green rescue (where he was so badly behaved, the vet could not get close to him).
Thanks again to everybody at the Rheged Centre who helped make such a brilliant screening of Show Up and Start this evening, to Dorothy Ramsay and to the wonderful audience who braved wind and rain to come to watch!
