I was happy to visit where #ISME all started. In 1977 a group of pioneering #Microbiologists #MicrobialEcologists including Kevin Marshall, Margaret Loutit, Marilyn Fletcher, Bill Costerton, Jim Tiedje and others got together for the first ever #ISME meeting. Now, nearly 50 years on #ISME is huge!
Happy to be in #Dunedin, the home of where a major conference was held by pioneering microbial ecologists in 1977. More about this later as I’m still recovering from a brutal park run! #ISME #microbiology #MicrobialEcology
A fabulous sunrise as we get ready for a long trip away, just for the fun of it 🥳!
I’m really looking forward to attending Rosie Moriarty-Simmonds art exhibition tomorrow in #Cardiff. Rosie is a phenomenal activist for disability rights and an incredible mouth artist.
We did the Christmas park run today with friends. There was a huge turnout of 555 people, a course record 🥇! A great way to start the festivities …. Happy Christmas all!
Time to reflect a little. It’s 40 years (in the last week) since my PhD viva/defence and 25 years since I was awarded a Personal Chair. I’m thankful for all of the opportunities that I’ve had.
In beautiful #Ludlow with a few microbiology friends. Saw this fantastic “hygienic fountain” right by the castle!
I was invited to the Wales STEM Awards last night ‘as a guest’ of the head judge. I enjoyed it thoroughly. At the end of the ceremony, totally unbeknown to me, they then presented me with this lovely award. I had no idea! Thank you so much to the judges.
