Have never even kept an orchid alive more than 6 months, much less saved one with root rot and gotten it to rebloom. Quite chuffed with myself and very pleased with the easy peasy stick-it-in-water method of growing orchids 🌱🌸

We learned the hard way that poultry is the most common food allergy in dogs!! Chronic ear and skin infections just went poof after a new vet switched his nibs here to a poultry-free prescription food & we cut out all chicken/turkey/duck treats. The food is $$$ but cheaper than the ear infections!

Uh…just to stick with France, the modern nation-state won’t hit 250 for another 13 years; those Republic statues are only 130ish; current state wasn’t founded til 1958. France is also multi-ethnic, 15% or so had a 1st language other than French (US is c20%), and complaining is the one shared custom
Not for nothing, Marianne overlooks neither the Place de la Nation or the Place de la République, assuming she’s talking about the ones in Paris. Both of those statues are allegorical figures of the Republic

Was not expecting Jimmy Carter to pop up so prominently at French history conference, but absolutely fantastic paper by Manuel Dorion-Soulié on the links between French car culture and American military domination in the Middle East. My favorite kind of cultural-foreign policy history mashup 🗃️
The Society for the Study of French History seems not to be on here for tagging, but my first day at their Groningen conference is starting off with a bang. State planning is way more interesting than your average cultural historian might suspect 🗃️
Fascinating, if only marginally understood, ceremony for the Netherlands’s Day of Remembrance for the victims of the transatlantic slave trade. Musical selections (“Amazing Grace” and “Stand Up” from “Harriet”) all Anglophone, which is very interesting
