I got a little scattered as the day went on, but these pieces have been accessioned and I have some groovy close up photos of them! With this magnifier you can really see the weave of the cloth, the bleeding of the inks, and the slits between colors

That had been my assumption when I first glanced at these objects as well! They are finely woven tapestries that utilize the slit technique and will be amazing examples for my tapestry class!

I’m currently accessioning this gorgeous Qing dynasty rank badge and I just had to share it!

Working on accessioning some fiber samples today and this one is winning for my favorite so far! I was hoping I’d like the corn fiber more but it felt super plastic-y. I’ll be working with some dog fur yarns next! 🐶

About a handful of stinging nettle fiber sitting atop a book in front of an apple keyboard. The fibers are short and in clumps that easily break apart when handled the individual strands of fiber vary in thickness and texture, and there are pieces of cellulosic material that resembles small wood chips throughout.

When I worked in rural Appalachia, a squirrel got its leg caught in a mouse trap and I was able to take her to the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, but even then all that could be done was keep her comfortable as she passed 😭 you did the best you could for her!

In today’s episode of I Love Chicago™ I’d like to show off this vending machine where I bought tarot reading from at a Red Line stop the other day! This thing was filled with so many cool pieces of art and CTA themed tchotchkes, I definitely recommend keeping an eye out for it

The vending machine is not filled with food, but rather art and other interesting novelty items, including a small hotdog shaped rug and various pieces of Chicago and CTA themed memorabilia.

Resting on a dark wooden surface is a small envelope that reads “your mini tarot reading from the dark exact.” Below it is three tarot cards depicted in black-and-white. The first is the magician card which shows a beaker, a plant, and various astronomical and alchemical symbols. In the middle is the fool card which depicts a young plant. Posting live from a Shelter In Place Drill and I can’t help but reminisce to high school when I experienced my longest shelter-in-place (not a drill) to date & I spent it knitting or trying to lie down semi-comfortably on my project bag of yarn. I’m currently in the loom room and it feels familiar

Got pretty down to the wire with materials for this LOOOONG sign, but it’s done! This weaving will now stay on the loom for probably a week or two, then all the woven cloth will get cut off and the weavers will take our pieces

Currently sitting on the floor to stretch my hips and rest my feet, so here’s the weaving so far! I spent Christmas in Texas (first ever time there!) and encountered a highway sign I’ve never seen before! Any guesses as to which sign it is?
