Thinking a lot about my dad, who would've turned 73 today. He recorded some organ parts for the Tiny Life soundtrack, which I like to revisit every so often. Happy birthday Dad, wish you were still here. 💔
this week I've begun putting a slideshow/video reel for my dad's celebration of life and found a photo of him sitting with his Hammond. I had such a cool dad.
Despite a very difficult loss in my family this week, I do want to share good news for once. I contributed music to Barbie™️: Rewind! I hope everyone will enjoy the Dreamhouse segments of the game. We all worked so hard on this!
At 2:56pm today, my father drew his last breath. I owe him everything I am as a musician and a person. Rest in peace, Dad. Enjoy playing with mom at the big gig in the sky.
we peaked in the 70s with album cover art, and i won't be convinced otherwise
a little bit of footage from the VGM show I played with @thennecan.bsky.social in November! although i'm focusing on composing for the near future, I had a blast playing here. i look forward to playing for an audience again someday! "Yearnings of the Wind" is composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.
When confronted by a majority of musicians about how dumb this is--INCLUDING Adam Neely--he doubled down and eventually ended the thread with this. He's very much the "my way or the highway" type, a man so preoccupied with pedantry and skepticism that he'll dismiss people with decades of expertise.
Last Epic Games rant for the day. You might have wondered at some point, "is Tim Sweeney actually an idiot?" 3.5 years ago, he came up with the asinine suggestion that musicians would be better off with "piano roll notation", saying music notation was silly/inefficient. He really is that stupid.
Found this in a comments section. Reply guys are effortlessly terrible at finding the actual culprit behind staff turnover and mass firings at studios. Hiring practices are not what led to this, much as the gamers™ want to believe. These aren't cushy jobs by any stretch.
Started taking up index painting for fun again. Was trying to recreate something I saw in my dreams the other night. Wasn't entirely successful ... but I kind of like what came out of this for other reasons.
came home to find this. her full bowl of food clearly wasn't enough, because SHE WENT AND OPENED THE WHOLE CONTAINER
Luna's owner took her to the groomer and this is what came out. She looks genuinely miserable. 😭
I have been temporarily adopted by this cryptid while her previous human is getting back on their feet. Her name is Luna, say hi!
big news: i bought a big ass cubby hole shelf for the studio and now actually have room for things. the better choice would've been a slatwall for my guitars, but then i wouldn't have places for boxes and books.
Picked up a tcl nxtpaper tablet for band rehearsals in 2026. No more dragging stacks of sheet music around :3
POV: you're about to play video game music for a crowd 1000km from home, and oh my god you can't do this. what did you get yourself into? do you even know how to play guitar?! go back to the woodshed, you jazz bimbo
Walked about 21,000 steps yesterday in the heart of Vancouver yesterday, then played a fun set with @thennecan.bsky.social at the Pearl. Thanks for an unforgettable night, @bonusstagevan.bsky.social ! Hope I'll get to come visit again someday.
my travel rig is finally complete and ready for our show @ the pearl on 11/22! #vgm @thennecan.bsky.social @bonusstagevan.bsky.social
making a coffee frappe at home, and I was suddenly reminded about David Lynch and his search for the perfect milkshake. I should try to make a milkshake next!
Hey, #gameaudio and #composer folk. I don't want to keep supporting Microsoft when they're doing stuff like this, so I want to divest myself of them completely. Is there a Linux distro that's VST and DAW-friendly? Or am I up shit creek?
