The Nio (Buddha Guardians) at the gate in front of Todaiji temple in Nara, Japan , I didn't find out about what they were about until decades later after seeing them since I still remembered

this is more typical of the comic expressions in the Ghost In The Shell manga, many adaptations they have been a bit flat character wise

here it is, it came out in 2009, D'artagnan looks like Link, they added the monkey to make it more kid friendly I guess
