Baffling sort-of u-turn re LBC interview took 10 davs, instead of 10 minutes so no effect. Lessons? Voters draw conclusions which can be very hard to change, & rarely reversed by u-turns. Dismissing issues when they are important to voters has an effect. MPs are a vital source of intel. Etc.

Further lesson - which looks like Andy B absorbed: whips when used correctly are collectors of intel re voter reactions which can improve policy and prevent political damage. As per winter fuel, PIP reforms, etc. if whips used purelv as No10 enforcers, this fuels rebels, esp. with large majority.

Dismissing MPs taking death threats, attacks etc as needing to toughen up leads to failure to read a more widespread, reasonable voter reaction to a decision which either needs changing or better explanation. (The death threats alone shouldn't direct policy, obvs, that's tyranny)

Eitner way, there's a strong sense tnat a Burnham-led government will be female- dominated. One senior figure in the party even describes Burnham as Labour's first woman prime minister'. This is not a revelation about his policy on self-ID for trans people, but reflects his interests. The reason Labour have always craved, but also been cautious about, a female leader is because, in a Labour government, she could have an unashamedly female agenda, focused on health, education, family finances and issues like safer streets, social care, online safety for kids, that are disproportionately important to women. Speaking at a launch for a report by campaign group Freedom in the Arts last Monday, April 27th, the Irish artist described the backlash to her 2023 comments on puberty blockers for trans youth as "professional exile," alleging that promoters, collaborators and media distanced themselves following the controversy.

Her original remarks characterised puberty blockers as harmful and framed trans young people as "confused," drawing widespread criticism from fans, artists and LGBTQIA+ groups at the time. Medical consensus and major health bodies support gender-affirming care as a regulated and evidence-based practice.

She has since doubled-down, describing the idea of someone changing sex as "insane" and "the core hallucination of this destructive and insidious movement." This led to festivals including Istanbul's Back In Town removing the former Moloko vocalist from their programme.

The report found GMP were four times more likely to use force against black people in comparison to white people, 2.8 times more likely to arrest them, 5.7 times more likely to use a Taser on them and 5.3 times more likely to use stop and search powers against them.

It also found officers were more likely to refer to the physique of black people when justifying a decision to use force.

At the time, Chief Constable Stephen Watson rejected the claim, adding while it was feasible GMP could employ "somebody who behaves in a racist way", they would be "rooted and booted out" of the force.
