Hamilton has a make-fun-of rep to NZers, but I find it a very liveable city. Plenty of amenities, parks, eateries etc, & a newly opened theatre. It’s the fastest growing city in NZ for a reason. It’s also the most sheltered from seismic and climate hazards which helps a wimp like me 😁
Some of my colleagues surf before work. Others keep horses. Most adults have at least one social sport or hobby. Morning and afternoon tea are sacrosanct. Stunning nature is on your back doorstep to make the most of. (9/n)
You can’t swing a cat on the North Island without bumping into a waterfall or hot pool. You can drive to the ski fields in 4 hours. Hamilton is the perfect spot for exploring so many of these natural wonders. Our other campus at Tauranga is stunning. (3/n)

Ang Higginson presenting hate crime victimisation prevalence among young people (14-25yrs) in 🇦🇺 about the worrying impotence of bystanders in public. Bystanders doing nothing makes victims feel worse during hate speech incidents (& 16% of bystanders were perceived by victims to join in the abuse).
Now Ioannis Ioannidis talking about the spatial patterning of graffiti in underpasses and how patterns in the urban/suburban areas differ with respect to correlates.
Fascinating talk by Jon Corcoran about scaling up Milgrim's 'familiar strangers' concept w/ transit journeys. The 'invisible ties' & 'light touch community' is associated with reduced risk of victimisation. Nice demo of guardianship! Took 8m to run the models 🤯 pandemic has since changed patterns.
