The blocks for the scrap quilt are done. Next I'll see about scrappy sashing. I'm thinking about sashing in complimentary colors to the adjacent blocks. The experiment continues...
Progress on the scrap quilt blocks! I'm experimenting with making 5 of each colorway to blend them a bit. I still have no real idea where this is going. I seem to have more scraps than when I began, too...

I'm starting a new scrap quilt experiment. No plan, just a vague guideline to start with color family blocks. Is it just me, or do scrap quilts NOT actually make a dent in the volume of scraps?

When they're smaller they make longer Muppet conga lines! These seem to be under supervision by a more senior Muppet.
I have Garden Muppets! These are Milkweed Tussock Moth caterpillars. Just like Monarch butterflies, they eat milkweed. They are so adorable! #invertebrate #insect #nativeplants

My second Hawaiian -style wall quilt! The pattern is "Kanani O Amelika" ("The Beauty of America") from Poakalani Quilting. Size is 22 inches square.
Look! I moved rocks around from other parts of the yard to create this "streambed" in my recently planted native bed to try to manage the drip from the gutter line. (Yes, we need to clean/fix/replace the gutter.) #nativeplants #garden

Look at this amazing #insect! I believe it's a Black Giant Icneumanoid Wasp, Megarhyssa atrata. This is a female, and that long "tail" is her ovipositor. She can drill into wood with it! #invertebrate
I just finished this #native plant garden. It has a beauty berry bush, a Joe-Pye cultivar that will only get 5 feet tall, some Amsonia, Culver's root, coreopsis, shrubby St. Johns Wort, butterfly weed, and bee balm.
I believe this is an Acadian Flycatcher diving and splashing in my backyard creek. I saw it for this several times (I read this is a unique behavior they do, and there are definitely Acadian Flycatchers in the woods here). Sorry for the video quality... #birds 🐦

A Zebra Swallowtail butterfly visited the milkweed in my garden! The Pawpaw tree is their host plant. I need to plant some! #invertebrate #nativeplants

I finished this quilt! I decided to go with a "flange" binding, combining the backing fabric with a golden yellow solid fabric. I quilted it on my little Brother domestic machine (the only machine I have, lol). Note that I did not piece the backing! It's a very cool print.
#nativeplants Two groundcovers growing in the woods. The shorter one with the white flowers is Partridgeberry. Cool fact: each pair of flowers, once fertilized, becomes a single berry. The other plant is Striped Wintergreen, which has a second common name I love: Pipsissewa.
Look what I found in the woods in my yard! This is Monotropa uniflora, aka "ghost pipes." They are parasitic plants, with no chlorophyll of their own, that feed from fungal networks in the soil. The fungi, in turn, are connected to nearby tree roots, which provide sugars. #nativeplants
Trying something new! My first traditional Hawaiian style quilt! This is a ti leaf pattern from the Poakalani Hawaiian Quilt School. I've managed to baste the design to the background and the next step is needle-turned applique. Wish me luck!
Some #insects in the rainy garden today. A carpenter ant tending aphids on a common milkweed leaf, a carrion beetle hanging out on a cherry tree, and a leaf-footed bug on native Clematis virginiana.
