Co-founder of Ngombor. A community owned and operated organization in NW Uganda, in an Ebola high risk zone. ngombor.org, I’m also a cartoonist and author.
And Kim Stanley Robinson. While some authors age badly, I feel like Stan has aged like a fine red wine. He’s an inspiration, friend and someone that the more you get to know the more you adore. If you are already a fan of Stan, make sure you read his recent non-fiction Sierras Book.
Kaiju Preservation Society was a fun romp I needed as we emerged from COVID. When the Moon Hits Your Eye made me want to write fiction again. I describe it as, If Italy Calvino and World War Z (the book) had an AV Club baby. @scalzi.com
@tkingfisher.com has a few on the shelves. I never thought I liked kissing books until I read her moody paladins books.
Grady Hendrix is so smart and snarky. I’ve not yet read this one, but he’ll write horror I’ll actually read, he’s so smart and funny and “By the power of Madonna” is a phrase I have thanks to him!
So many good friends at the store, and so many awesome looking folks I’ve not yet read! :) Ryan North is such a thoughtful and awesome human being (and not just because he published a story of mine in Machine of Death 2). Much Ado and Romeo + Juliette as choose your own adventure? Looks great!
Love seeing friends at the book store. @sentencebender.bsky.social you’re a staff pic! Your excellent Blackfish City at Couth Buzzard!
Wow, Abe Books! Someone needs to have a look at your UI strings! Lols! : D Anyone else seeing this? www.abebooks.com/servlet/Book...
Scam alert, it looks like bitcoin etc scammers are being extra aggressive towards folks in #ebola high risk zone. Emotionally and financially stressed folks are ideal targets. Please spread the word and help people be safer
Strong article and possibly the best visualizations I’ve seen for this outbreak (please share links if you have other candidates!) Example:
Plus Native Sounds, where Brangien Davis interviewed Gene Tagaban (of Khueex), Hosogi Margulis and Kevin Sur. @cascadepbs.org Festival of Ideas
And @cascadepbs.org I just finished the other drawings. The Political Scene: Everything Funny Hurts a Little where Tyler Foggatt interviewed Robby Hoffman. Radio Atlantic where Hanna Rosin interviews Nancy Pelosi
if Kennedy Jnr and the orange guy wanted the world to adjust to America no longer being a global power, I would have preferred options with less loss of life. Now whenever I think of the orange guy I think of this billboard, except with “withholding global aid, no one things big of you” #ebola
Democracy in Color, followed by World on the Brink at the PBS festival of ideas. Thank you for organizing @cascadepbs.org some interesting things to chew on. @cascadepbs.org Could you please pass these drawing on to the speakers? Thank you :)
Excited to be at PBS Ideas Festival :) @pbs.org @cascadepbs.org Standing in line for Democracy in Color with Steve Phillips and Ibram X Kendi
People come to Nebbi district for incredible nature around Murchison Falls National Park. They can see wild elephants walk up to their bedroom with curiosity. But tourists do not stay for the people and there has not had the investment to help people stay when Nebbi could be so much. #ebola
The other spot is centered around Gulu. Gulu has a refugee camp, which means it has a better hospital than Nebbi. If you live if Nebbi and cannot get treatment in Arua, the longer trek to Gulu is an option. You can literally see who isn't on the map. #ebola public health considerations
So many months of terrible pain, then separation from her children back in Nebbi. So much frustration and emotional pain for her. She is an incredible community leader who could do so much. Not to mention lost income How great it would be if Winny could also be at Ngombor helping #ebola prevention
Following the guidance of the doctor in the hospital, she did not get surgical treatment. But it was clear in January that the bones were not healing at all. From there it took many weeks for her to get surgery. X-ray immediately after the accident before they reset it #ebola
I hope from this terrible #ebola outbreak more investment will come to regional hospitals. Winny could be helping us a lot, but she is mostly in Arua, learning to walk again. In November she broke her leg in a boda boda accident. In 2025 she ran conversations about gender roles in multiple villages
This is Winny, Ngombor’s Treasurer and a Community Development officer with Nebbi District Local Government Here she is during a Permaculture Designer Course with an energy efficient stoves they constructed. One fire, two pots. #Ebola #ArtSavesLives #Permaculture
Questions like these, potential factors like these should be part of the risk assessment when closing a border. Is the government aware of how many VSLA schemes are threatened by border closure? Are they prepared to financially support these backbones of communities if VSLAs are harmed? #ebola
This is the end of year financials for the VSLA component of Ngombor, and this is a well established, highly experienced group. Most loans are paid back in a month and 25 active loans. Ngombor's a little bit further from the border, how's it impacting closer groups? #ebola
