The Ceuta crisis & its exploitation by the MAGA Right. We have to get used to the idea that hybrid warfare will come from MAGA US as well as putin’s Russia.

This claim undercuts the outrage from MAGA
Republicans and their allies on Fox News and Twitter that the migrant crisis in Ceuta was the beginning of a North African Muslim invasion of Europe, and lays bare their hypocrisy on the issue of border security.
Trump used the crisis to make a political statement for the midterms, claiming that if Democrats win the situation in Ceuta would
be repeated in the U.S.

It will look politically daring, but that's only if you adopt the view from Westminster - where Brexit seems untouchable and all anyone can see are red lines. Among the people of Britain, it's a very different picture. A major survey by the ECFR in June found that Britons now regard Brexit as a "disaster", with three-quarters wanting a closer relationship with the EU. One striking number: when asked to choose, 63% said they would prioritise the relationship with the EU over the US, with only 19% making the opposite choice. A plurality even favours the creation of that one-time tabloid spectre: a European army with British troops in it. As Leonard puts it:

"Donald Trump and Nigel Farage are pointing to issues like wealth inequality, difficulties in housing and the job market," Sargent says.
"They're identifying and addressing those issues. The right issues with the wrong solutions, with excessive focus on illegal immigration or just borderline racism." He argues that the manosphere has become a subsection of populism, focusing on "easy answers to complex issues". In other words, forcing a narrative where there is an "us" and a "them".
In 2024, Farage said in online interviews that Tate was an "important voice" for the
"emasculated" and was giving boys "perhaps a bit of confidence at school". His affinity for Tate caused rifts within Reform over the limiting effect that support for the manosphere would have on their appeal.

You can’t help but think of Farage, Tice, Yusuf, Jenrick et al. It’s what they would do should they have the opportunity: Use their victimhood & their xenophobic send-them-home narratives as a smokescreen as they enrich themselves, but divide & destroy us.

You can hear him gulping through his lies from 06.55 .. “1000s use the ECHR to avoid deportation”. They may apply to use it, but research shows that very few succeed. But ofc Robinson doesn’t question the claim. “The ECHR is stopping us controlling our borders & protecting our veterans”.

He said he was deeply concerned his own party would embrace the policy of leaving the
ECHR, a move favoured by the Tory leadership hopeful Robert Jenrick.
"You just end up with a repeat of the Brexit episodes, of our international influence in being diminished and our reputation damaged and a big practical issue in Northern Ireland. I don't know why the country would be attracted to that as an offer," he said.

How’s our self belief as, isolated, we slip down the list of largest economies? Military power? as we can’t afford to fund our armed forces in a period of global instability? Soft power? As we reduce aid, close down British Councils & shut off study routes. Kinship & migration. How’s that?

Perhaps the greatest benefit, though, is not easy to quantify. Britain has recovered its self-belief. As we left the EU, we straightened our backs, looked about us, and realised that we were still a nation to be reckoned with: the world's fifth economy and fourth military power, one of five members on the UN Security Council and a leading member of the G7 and the Commonwealth. We recalled, too, that we were the world's leading exporter of soft power; that our language was the most widely studied on Earth; that we were linked by kinship and migration to every continent and archipelago. We saw that there were great opportunities across the oceans, beyond the enervated eurozone. We knew that our song had not yet been sung.

The reforms were a strategic error. Labour elevated an issue that was obscure for most voters, and mobilised a million people against the government, most of whom were Commonwealth migrants with voting rights.
Starmer again signalled a retreat on applying the proposals to care workers already in Britain, though his successor may have to settle the details this Autumn.
Having inherited record immigration, on a downward trajectory, net migration fell further and faster under Labour than anybody anticipated. Yet that did little to change how government ministers talked about the need to reduce immigration.
Starmer's successor will need to answer a question that has so far been ducked: what is the sustainable level of migration that the government will accept and defend?

His first moves on immigration were liberal.
He scrapped the UK-Rwanda deal, and began to process asylum claims again. He made the argument for this mainly on pragmatic grounds, particularly the eye-watering costs and unfeasibility of the Rwanda scheme.
Yet the partisan temptation was to challenge the Conservatives from their right, arguing that they had foisted an "open borders experiment" on Britain. That narrative misdiagnosed the chaotic, disastrous situation in which tens of thousands of asylum seekers had become stuck in hotels.
Really it was a botched experiment in closing the borders, and declaring that no asylum claims would be processed for those who arrived without permission.
The Labour government's voice and policy hardened considerably after the cabinet reshuffle of September 2025. There was no doubting Shabana Mahmood's belief in what she was doing, but her proposal that the time it took to settle immigrants should be tripled in length split the parliamentary party, and Labour's potential electorate.

At the very least, though, Brexit: A Very British Civil War should offer a rebuttal to
conspiracy theorists, as it reveals that most of the people in positions of power could not organise their way out of a paper bag. The levels of incompetence and chaos are almost as shocking as the pettiness and insecurities that these most instrumental men appear to possess

Farage comes across as brittle, while competing accounts of a row between Cameron and Johnson are infuriatingly unserious, though they don't seem to see it that way. Johnson says that when he floated his support for leaving the EU, Cameron told him, "I will fuck you up forever". On this, he is backed up by his ex-wife Marina Wheeler.
Cameron says he does not recall saying that, but admits that he was getting "passionate" about it. This undignified exchange of anecdotes comes from two prime ministers, who presided over the nation's slide into political chaos, the consequences of which continue to spill over today. They sound as if they are talking about an old boys' game of tennis.

No political party can or even seems keen to try to turn their backs on Thatcherism, no one says look at Scandinavia; at excellent schools for all, equal opportunities for all, excellent health care for all. No one is willing to tell the truth because they know it is political suicide to try and don't tell me Corbyn is any better. Obsessing about American hegemony and Israel, while eulogising Cuba, is not going to help the left behinds and they know it.
The desperate irony is that, in an attempt to break the mould, people who have suffered most are voting for the party that cares least, is the most Thatcherite and Trumpian of the lot and they will be shafted again.

In UK we need a MSM that challenges robustly & doesn’t pander to Reform’s claim to an unstoppable momentum, & a govt that doesn’t lose its way pandering to Reform’s agenda. And we need to get money out of politics all together.

And yet the broad lessons still travel.
Democratic institutions, firmly and proportionately defended, are more resilient than the national populists want us to believe.
The sense of unstoppable momentum that these movements project is largely a performance; when met with a state that is neither panicked into excessive repression nor paralysed into appeasement, their gloss of inevitability soon fades.

personification of all the worst sentiments that dwell within the human heart: self-pity, bullying, the urge for dominance, the refusal to take responsibility for your actions, a complete lack of interest in the truth - a journey back through the evolution of the species. And so inevitably, at some point even his presidential addresses will involve some kind of criminal conclusion
