This is my little bit of the Green Gathering festival in Chepstow. The Radical Family Space, in Campaigns, whose mission is to gently indoctrinate children with a full programme of proudly woke workshops and storytelling. 😎🩷🌱✊
Without saying your age, what‘s your favorite movie that came out when you were 18. #18movies
I just went to a creative writing workshop with one of my favourite writers in the world, Kae Tempest. He was amazing at opening up an inclusive and non-judgemental space for a group of around 20, some of whom do this for a living, some are total beginners (like me). What a treat. Buy his book!
“So many of our elders are dead”, write Adam and Tash. But the excellent work they do as historians of queer community I Britain keeps them alive. They are treasures.🩷✊
Helpful to the campaigners that the listing specifically mentions the function of the building as a library, too, I’d warrant.
When I was growing up I got my puberty & sex education mainly from books like The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole. And maybe also the Kay’s Catalogue. Today, excellent, LGBTQ+ affirming, books like this exist. It’s Totally Normal: An LGBTQIA+ Guide to Puberty & Gender. By Gupta & Mehta. Recommend.
This is an excellent, accessible, short history of sex education and its (many) limitations. Highly recommended. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: Sex Education Transformed By Natalie Fiennes
A Short History of Queer Parenting, by Kirsty Loehr is really good. A breezily-written & super accessible cultural history. A nice partner piece to her equally good Short History of Queer Women. Recommended for tweens, teens, & adults.
A small group of transphobes are protesting on High St, Cardiff city centre. An impromptu gathering of trans folks an allies have formed an already bigger counter demo, supported by local businesses handing out rainbow drops and blasting Lady Gaga! Anyone in the area should join us!
Cardiff Foodbank’s warehouse in Splott, where I live, is almost empty & they’ve put out an emergency appeal. Donate ££: givetoday.co.uk/cardifffoodb... Donate food by dropping it off: cardiff.foodbank.org.uk/support-us/d... Please share! Read more 👇
Naturalise #bisexuality by continuing to post pics of nature in bi lighting!
Next stop, the Billy Dragg, Efa Supertramp, & Cosmo gig at the Ty-Ni Social club in Adamsdown. Anarcho folk country punk vibes. All welcome!
Currently chilling at the Cardiff Big Queer picnic. Quaffing champagne, eating sushi, enjoying lush local queer musicians, reading the propaganda I collected on the March, and bumping into friends, old and new.
Carwyn Donovan lent his support to the petition for a public inquiry into the corrosive and evil Section 28, the Thatcherite “don’t say gay” law which outlawed teachers talking about queerness in schools between the 1980s & 2000s. You should too.👇👀 petition.parliament.uk/petitions/76...
Another Cardiff Pride highlight was meeting Carwyn Donovan, Comrade, queer ally, & son of legendary NUM activist Dai Donovan a trailblazer of trade union support for LGBTQ+ rights (yes, him from the movie Pride!!). www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-n...
Met up with the amazing Dr Sara Correia-Hopkins, who’s doing great work on an oral history of Section 28 in Wales cardiffjournalism.co.uk/thecardiffia...
Private Eye is one of the best campaigning and investigative news outlets we have. It’s always a badge of shame when an institution is covered in that august organ. Senior management at Cardiff University, sadly, are frequently covered these days.
Today is the Senedd election in Wales! Say no to the far right, don’t enable Reform, vote Plaid, Green, or (if you must) Labour.
To sum up, saving the news means 3 things: - Protecting standards and trust-story by story - Building a sustainable model that funds the journalism - Ensuring high-quality news remains discoverable in a platform-led, Al-shaped world
