Everyone knows Jules Rimet as the man behind the World Cup. Fewer know he was a First World War veteran, and that the war shaped everything he built afterwards. HALF TIME thread 🧵⚽ 📸 Wikicommons
Hello it’s me, your semi-regular hustling for archive work post. Do you need something copied from the archives or perhaps some research completing, but can’t get there yourself? Pay me to go instead. I’m great!
I can’t believe my little man is 1 next month, can you?! Where has the time gone. I love him so much it makes me cry.
Guess we won’t be going out this morning then. Jeffrey turned 5 this month and has entered his thug era being very impatient and bolshy. Seems he threw a shoe last night too, perhaps a result of the footie stress.
Will admit I haven’t got the brain power to watch tonight but thanks again for the kind words about Jungle Commandos and covering this campaign. Pic below is of the few 3 Cdo Bde veterans who made it back to 170 for the 60th anniversary in 2005.
Short sleeved shirts just remind me of Falling Down. I always assume the person wearing it is close to a mental break down. You’d have to be to pair the formality of a tie with a casual unsheathed elbow.
Disclaimer: being an equine historian doesn’t bias me against tanks, I promise. I have even driven a Mk IV at the fabulous Norfolk Tank Museum.
There was a time when I was out on the Western Front nearly every month; I miss it terribly. That strange sense of belonging, of tuning into the wavelength of the Old Front Line, where the endless stories of those who rest there continue to broadcast as the modern world turns around them.
most of the comments on this reel from @ww2desert_lone_rat on Insta are grim.
Back to grift 🥴😬 I mean, share a few events I’m doing this September: 5th September - @gallipoliassoc.bsky.social annual conference (mules & AVC at GallipolI ) 12th September - We Have Ways Fest (Jungle Commandos/Burma) 26th September - Hereford Military Fest (Burma & mules)
Also, Becky clipped Max. Hooray! He will be so much comfier now.
The news in the UK is even heavier, sadder and stress inducing that normal at present. So here is a puppy with no worries 🩷
@dienekes.bsky.social our instructor took Jeff out today and he really wasn’t up for it 😂 he’s one relaxed horse!!
We’ve got a system now. I rock him to sleep while I’m cycling. Seems fair. You can follow my back to fitness journey on Zwift or Strava LMBD
The fading shows this is one of my all time favourite t shirts.
Bloomin’ heck it’s hot here in France. Heading home from a fantastic shoot.
