Regarding the general health of the library system, Wieber said city libraries had 829,000 visits during the 2024-25 fiscal year, up from 822,000 the year before that and 785,000 two years prior.

Last fiscal year, library users checked out more than 1 million digital items and 2 million physical items.

The busiest two libraries by circulation were Gere Library in southeast Lincoln with 680,000 items checked out and Walt Library in the southwest part of the city with nearly 500,000.

A country singer set to headline the first night of an Ashland music festival Thursday is still set to play despite running into legal hot water after allegedly trashing a hotel room.

Bailey Zimmerman is "confirmed and ready to go" for the opening night of the Country Drive Music Fest near Ashland, festival organizers said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

Zimmerman is facing multiple charges, including one felony, after he allegedly trashed a hotel room in Albuquerque, New Mexico, last month, Entertainment Weekly reported Monday.

On May 27, Zimmerman was set to play a concert at the Sandia Resort and Casino before canceling last minute.

A winner in this category will have demonstrated excellence in transparency, responsiveness, and fostering an ongoing and open dialogue between elected officials and the communities they serve. Examples of excellence in constituent engagement include, but are not limited to, constituent correspondence programs and innovative methods of digital and physical outreach and communications.

Nebraska's 1st Congressional District Rep. Mike Flood's office received a 2026 Democracy Award for its constituent correspondence and engagement efforts during a time when many Americans feel disconnected from their elected officials.

The Congressional Management Foundation's Democracy Awards recognize the best in congressional non-legislative achievements across eight categories. Flood's office was one of two congressional offices that received an award in the "Best of Constituent Correspondence & Engagement" category.

Flood said the award reflects the work his office has done to ensure there is ongoing dialogue with the communities they serve in Nebraska's 1st Congressional District.
