I love Tasmania (2) Northern Tasmania. Where else can hamlets be called: Paradise, Nook, Promised Land, Nowhere Else, Lower Crackpot?

Happy scene at the beach today. Lots of smiling observers at a safe distance.

A seal sculpture on a beach today in southern Tasmania. The seal is rearing up over someone sitting on the sand. The black object apparently sitting on the seal’s nose is the top of the head of a man standing between the seal and the water. Traffic posts have been erected to keep observers at a safe distance.

Sheep dogs Western Australia.

Two black and white short haired border collies poke their heads out between the bars of a huge animal transport truck. Above the dogs are the rear ends of sheep and below them are the large tyres of the truck outlined against red-gold dirt.

Female wood duck with 14 ducklings next to a hedge in the Royal Hobart Botanical Gardens, Tasmania. Wood ducks almost always seem to be in pairs but today this female was by herself. A lone male wood duck was sitting out of sight at a fountain on the other side of the hedge.

Low winter sun lights up the hill behind Rocky Cape, Rocky Cape, NW Tasmania. This is a place with an extraordinary history. The rocks of here were once connected to the Grand Canyon 14000km (8500 miles) away. Tasmanian Aboriginals lived here 8,200 years ago.

A curved path runs along the brow of a sloping hill covered with very low golden coloured vegetation. The line of the path leads the eye towards the tip of a limestone headland reaching out into a flat bluegrey sea. The sky has a partial coverage of low flat clouds. The calm picture belies the sometimes furious wind and sea that can batter this area in the Roaring Forties.

If a tree falls in the forest... A very large tree lies across a lonely road in The Tarkine, NW Tasmania. The tree is newly fallen (as often) in the calm weather after rain & very strong wind. It will take more than a worker with a chainsaw to clear this & take time to get a bulldozer or a tractor.

A very large tree trunk lies shattered on a road travelling through light native Tasmanian forest. The tree has speared down onto the road from the hill on the left to completely block the road.

The quiet and calm of a mid winter evening in Tasmania in the Roaring Forties at the bottom of the world. Kunanyi/Mt Wellington is backlit by the afterglow of a sunset in an almost cloudless sky. Light is reflected off the calm water of the River Derwent.

Snapped yesterday. I did not expect to see this scene when I sheltered from rain in a shed at a garden centre in Mittagong, Southern Highlands, NSW.

An enormous white marble reproduction of La Pieta di Michaelangelo under spotlights in a warehouse. The statue is elevated on a slatted wooden pallet resting on a marble base and is surrounded by miscellaneous pieces of old furniture, mirrors, oriental carpets and glass lamps shades.

Suspended stone circle II Ken Unsworth (Australia born 1931) Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia.

This sculpture comprises 103 large river rocks suspended as a 4m horizontal disc by diagonally intersecting black strings running from three points on the ceiling. The disc of rocks is held suspended just above the floor. The lighting from above casts a secondary disc of light and shadow on the floor.
