The first time they properly meet, Sarah's struggling to brew a potion for a client (assisted by Onyx, a talking black cat), with no experience of witchcraft. She's made a huge mess of the kitchen and herself, and is close to having a meltdown when Raven shows up at the door. #SumLuv
I love a good meet cute (love writing them) though my WiP doesn't have a classic one. The first time my MCs see each other is at the will reading where Sarah inherits her grandmother's cottage (and the job of a local witch that comes with it, though she doesn't know that yet). #SumLuv
Was touch and go whether I'd be able to run today because of hip issues, but managed to complete the York 10k even if I had to kiss my initial target time goodbye. Fingers crossed I can avoid injury next year and improve on the time.
Ginger loaf cake crumb shot! Nice and and light and moist even if it is a little sunken.
Progress so far: not great, but not a total disaster. Sunk slightly after rising, so next time I might adjust down the raising agent slightly. Have to wait a while to try the true test of cutting and eating, though.
Today's round of #TummyOrTrap turned out to be a (thankfully gentle and ineffective) trap.
More gluten free vegan baking experiments, this time with blueberry scones. Gotta say there's something very pleasing to me about the colour of the blueberries oozing out.
Our cats are all obsessed with our neighbour's cat. Every time they see it they run outside or between windows to get the best view like it's a local celebrity.
Finally cool enough again for more vegan gluten free experimenting. Now I've found a cookie recipe that works well I figured I'd try tweaking it for a few different flavours, this time lemon and white chocolate, and triple chocolate.
Working out in the garage, I couldn't help but notice how the knots and grains of the wooden beam here look kind of like a small dog, perpetually judging my efforts whenever I do anything lying on my back.
Calliope and Thalia enjoying the cooler morning air (best part of the day at the moment).
At least someone is enjoying the warm weather, though I notice even Calliope is sticking to the shade.
Thalia going for her pre-meal walk. Gotta admire her commitment to the exercise regime.
Really like the wild flower borders around York's walls at the moment.
One joy of having tortoise shell cats is that there is no colour I can wear to fully hide the endless supply of fur that covers me.
Hmmm. I wonder what kind of pest leaves holes like these in leaves.
Finally cool enough to bake again so I can continue my gluten free vegan experimenting. This week it's white chocolate and blueberry blondies.
#LGBTQWriteAThon A few too many options to choose from for "magic" in my WiP all about a young woman learning to be a witch. In the end, I went with this one from one from Raven, her teacher, during one of her early lessons:
This #Caturday Polly and Thalia are investigating the open window as a new route in and out of the house.
Thalia seems to believe she can hide from the heat in a blanket. If only...
Calliope is celebrating #Caturday by hiding from the heat in Boots' Biscuits, but she seems reluctant to take my order.
Recently completed one of those beginner crochet kits, and my first ever project. Her name is meant to be Maple the Fox, but I think I'll call her Miss Lumpy-Bumpy.
Another round of #TummyOrTrap today with Clio, and I'd describe the result as "somewhat indifferent tummy". The indifference was on her part, of course. Her fur was lovely and warm from the sun.
I mostly write at home because I hate noise, but sometimes, when I'm in the right headspace, something about writing in a café can make me suuuuper productive, especially when fuelled by tasty iced tea. And with that, my read through and note taking on my 1st draft is done. Let the edits begin!
And today's shop was followed by a further indulgence of a trip to Junk Soul at Spark for a kimchi and tofu burger in a charcoal bun, because if you're already treating yourself you might as well lean into it.
Having been very restrained recently, I made the mistake of visiting @portalbookshop.bsky.social (twice) and the new Toppings in York, resulting in this book haul for the week. I should not be left unattended in book shops. Should keep me busy for a while at least?
