Love to see classic bad faith transphobia talking points called out by a reviewer but that make it through to the final paper
If you want an indication of how bad faith this whole thing is, check out the reviewer asking them to remove the proposed keywords “clarity” (incessantly used in political response to the UK’s transphobic Supreme Court FWS ruling) and “parental care” (obvious flashing transphobia red alert)
It is not the place of clinicians to decide for you what your identity is and how you can express it. This is asserting total, complete control over the social lives of individuals on absolutely spurious "medical" grounds. And the fucking government are CODIFYING it.
The asymmetry here is absurd. Obviously, *denying* recognition of someone's identity is a very harsh, punitive form of "active intervention" which can have the uttermost serious consequences.
This is a curiously disjointed but fascinating book, half of which is about “women” taking on male identities in the navy up to its professionalisation in the 19th century (debunking the romantic trope that this was used as a means to find lost lovers)
What’s not clear to me is whether the Oslo scandal also impinges on the Danish research that is used as the backbone of Cass’s argument about co-occurring mental health diagnoses Which is central to the “justification” for post-Cass re-engineering of CYP services to repathologize trans identity
In fact the whole “exponential rise” trope in respect to Danish data is dismantled by this paper by David R. Banks & Kristopher Salvesen
Quick look at the Cass Report re: data from Denmark It is interesting to see that Cass is presenting data from Waehre that she received as part of “personal communication” - what else did she absorb directly from this now discredited source?
Went to see Ai Weiwei’s new show in Manchester and managed to miss the man himself turning up because I was so engrossed in the fucked up black glass chandelier of death
This is a classic TERF “we can always tell” talking point from Stephenson and it is completely wrong. We have the receipts…
Just snagged this OP vinyl of Tilt by Scott Walker for 70p. Looked a mess cos it had bits of another cover stuck to the front but it’s cleaned off nicely. (Also snagged copies of 1,2,3 with knackered covers but excellent vinyl). Now I am going to bask in the otherworldly glow. #vinyl #NowSpinning
I guess the "basic biology" view of SRY genes isn't the whole story after all.
Note too that this applies when mistaken about “actual sexual orientation” etc etc
Strong “eldritch horror” vibes from the statue of Richard Cobden in Camden
Hard to pinpoint what went wrong given Starmer’s exquisite, forensic command of policy and tone
