Please no AI 'created' images/video -- I get that its involved in cameras and post production... Photographer (non human and human people). Book lover (and reader). Art lover (and collector). Anti capitalist and anti fascist (redundant that bit, I know).
Apparently, 'not always,' is the answer to the age old question.... Baffin Bay, April 2025. #polarbear #bear #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography #arctic #canadiannorth #nunavut
Doing final sweep of last year's Baffin Bay files. Here a Polar Bear is smashing through the ice; he wound up rolling around in the pool of water he created, but was likely first smashing into a seal den in search of lunch. #polarbear #arctic #canadiannorth #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography
@robcrank68.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #ForJanet, any of the Robin Species will do. Here's a North American Robin delivering lunch to a demanding family :) #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography
A less demonic looking Nelly (vs the previous photo of her I posted). Truly one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met; just a love everyone person she is! #dogs #dogphotography #blackdogs #nikonphotography #portraits
@robcrank68.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Corvidae. Here's a North American Crown having lunch in Jasper NP; the fish he had just fished out of the braided shallows of the nearby river. #birds #birdphotography #crow #nikonphotography
@robcrank68.bsky.social's #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #Birds&Flowers, birds standing with flowers. This Baltimore Oriole is standing on a branch; hope it counts :) #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography
A friend's dog, Nellie. A lover of the lake. #dogs #dogphotography #blackdogs #nikonphotography #doglove
Not this R-w Blackbird (shot on the Big Creek Marsh), but a couple days ago for the first time in decades a Red-winged Blackbird tried to take my head off; made contact. I saw his shadow coming in and bang! Wonderful moment for both of us I figure. #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography #wildlife
3. More Pride Toronto street portraits; these by the light (full unrelenting contrasty screw with exposure settings blasting sun 😀) of the day. #pride #pridetoronto #streetphotography #streetportraits #nikonphotography #Nikonphotography #loveislove

Series of street portraits I grabbed on Toronto's Church Street during Pride celebrations last night. Happy Pride! #Pride #TorontoPride #loveislove #streetphotography #streetportraits #nikonphotography

Day old Herring Gull. Look at that halo of fuzz 😍 No chicks here (tiny rock island in Algonquin Park's largest lake) the day before, thus some confidence on the age estimate 😀 #bird #birdphotography #gull #nature #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography
Pretty flower to say Happy Pride! Fragrant Water Lily (slight angle change, much better light than the previous version). Algonquin Park. June 2026. #flower #wildflower #nature #photography #nikonphotography #beauty #yellow
Fragrant Water Lily -- three stages captured here (not purposefully; I don't have that sort of foresight LOL) -- purple red young leaf, mature green pad (leaf) and the emerging flower (crowded with insect tenants and a spider supervising it all). #waterlily #photography #nikonphotography #flower
Tree Swallow coming in hot! Col. Sam Smith Park in Toronto -- featuring a "Swallow Field". Shot with the new Nikon 70-200 2.8 II Even on the Zf it tracked these birds with astounding speed! #bird #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography #torontobirds #photography
A Loon disturbs the green of a Tamarack reflected on the water. Algonquin Park, Ontario. #birds #bird #loon #birdphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography
Just swimming on by; he was close. Not quite inside the minimum focusing distance of the 600 f4 TC at 840, but nearly :) Do note the swarm of blackflies. #moose #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography #canada
Yearling bull moose peeking out of the bush at the edge of the marsh. #moose #wildlife #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography #canada
Bull moose with a mouthful of red (e.g. young and succulent) Fragrant Water Lily. This guy simply did not stop eating for a moment, even when moving, while we spent an hour with him until he swam, waded right past us. #moose #wildlifephotography #nikonphotography #wildCanada
The remarkable artist (and man) David Hockney has died. A blow to a (increasingly rare) world that values beauty, not the market. I am fortunate to have a work of his, which sits above my desk. (Sorry for the lousy photo.) RIP Mr. Hockney. #art #artislife #davidhockney #beauty #fuckfascism
A Blue-grey Gnatchatcher was kind enough to allow me to watch her fidgeting in her nest, and fussing with some last minute work on its construction, and then pose for a portrait in a nearby branch. #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography #wildlife
Walked by a fire today. Had the new Nikon 70-200 2.8 II on the camera. No sign of the fire on the street, so....
The very last bird I thought I'd see in the big city proper (this taken on a busy street in a light industrial area, and maybe 30 metres from a bulldozer moving earth): Eastern Wild Turkey hen. She was relaxed enough to be feeding on bugs in the grass #birds #urbanwildlife #nikonphotography
Red-necked Grebes making, a, er, um, splash. It's spring! #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography #wildlife
This Mallard drake swam well within min focus distance, then as he came into focus I realized there was a good reflection that @karenbdc.bsky.social would punish me for if I failed to capture and share, thus the suffocating (uncropped) crop :) #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography
Double-crested Cormorant. Stuck the ol' (wonderful) 500mm pf lens on the camera the other day to facilitate a bring the camera along on a long city walk. Came upon a pair of these birds in a spot I've never spotted them before, a good distance from the lake #birds #birdphotography #nikonphotography
Mange is ravaging fox populations in Ontario of late (e.g. 2024, 2025 data). Increase of the skin disease is beyond normal cycle fluctuations.. Here a shot of a vixen near Port Dover, last week. Heartbreaking. Mites are responsible but secondary infections cause the almost inevitable death.
