Right-wing MAGA billionaires suing news publishers to suppress public interest journalism On another topic, have I told you about the website antislappalberta.ca?
The spouse of fired BC Conservative staffer Lindsay Shepherd is the new director of communications for the BC Conservative caucus www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
These images of First Nations community members evacuating Collins, Ontario on motorboats are absolutely surreal www.facebook.com/reel/1548244...
They're two different boats The Instagram account you incorrectly cited as the photographer posted them a day after the photos were first posted on Facebook Here are additional photos showing these two photos were taken by two different people with two different cameras from two different boats
These photos of FNs community members fleeing their homes by boat are genuinely apocalyptic (Photo via Wayne Wastaken of Collins, Ontario, who says his “hometown is gone”) www.facebook.com/share/r/1ArN...
The Weather Network has a helpful map that lets Ontario residents track the plumes of death clouds fanning across the province this week
FROM: US EMBASSY SUBJECT: TALKING POINT THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA ISN’T TELLING CANADIANS AMERICA’S SIDE OF THE STORY!
The list of names on this open letter represents the biggest alliance against SLAPP lawsuits in Alberta's history It includes journalists, news publishers, media associations, press freedom orgs, digital creators, academics and faculty associations, lawyers, labour unions, civil society groups 👇
In the latest update from one of the weirdest strikes in recent history, CUPE 2722 says @oxfamcanada.bsky.social has sent them a “cease and desist” letter from their lawyers…
I am telling you people: Everyone leaves X and conservatives don’t have anyone left to yell at so they start yelling at each other and everyone gets depressed
It’s not the first time Hoekstra has partied with far-right activists as an ambassador either In 2020, as US Ambassador to the Netherlands, Hoekstra hosted a pre-campaign event for an ultranationalist anti-immigrant Dutch political party called Forum voor Democratie www.politico.eu/article/pete...
Hearing numerous people are getting their X accounts hacked after receiving DMs like this from real accounts they know – after clicking the link, they get tricked into entering their X password Checked the DMs on my dormant X account and received this message yesterday from a hacked account:
US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra welcomed Freedom Convoy leader Tamara Lich to his July 4 party in Ottawa tonight Lich is currently serving a house arrest sentence in relation to a criminal conviction over her role in the convoy's three-week occupation of Canada's capital city
Gosh, so many people are suddenly pushing the message that Canada's "mainstream media" isn't telling you the full story about US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra... And they're all spontaneously saying the same thing on the July 4 weekend too... 🤔
The entire Argentinian national team is basically some variation of this hairstyle, as far as I can tell
There are a couple of initiatives (NewsGuard, Trust Project) that focus more on checklists of items news sites should have to promote transparency and establish credibility rather than offering subjective evaluations about an organization’s political leanings (ie see NewsGuard’s checklist below)
Yeah, it’s a left-wing newspaper that gets a 4 out of 6 rating for facts, past Pulitzer Prizes notwithstanding
According to @gandersocial.ca’s label, McGill’s Centre for Media Technology and Democracy (headed by Gander adviser @taylorowen.bsky.social) also has a left-wing ideological bias on account of the centre’s academic work focusing on topics like climate change and democracy
lol “Media Bias Fact-Check” self-identifies as centrist and gives itself a “high factuality” rating, apparently indicating it is a more reliable source of information than The Guardian
In case you’re curious, The Guardian and Juno News both have the same rating for accuracy (“mixed factuality”) on @gandersocial.ca
Also a bit incredible to discover CBC has been labelled as having a “liberal bias” given one of @gandersocial.ca’s “strategic advisors” is *squints* uh, former CBC President Catherine Tait
“Media Bias Fact-Check” is a rinky dink website run by a random guy with no relevant experience or expertise on media or bias MBFC’s review of CBC’s “bias” was written by someone who provides no info on their background and has no discernible online presence other than a decade-old Twitter account
Signed up for that new Canadian @gandersocial.ca platform – not sure I will continue using it Shared a link from CBC News only to discover Gander adds ideological bias labels for news orgs based on ratings from a dubious American website called “Media Bias Fact-Check”…
