So I was reading a comic on Webtoons called Anthropods, and a really interesting scene happened. A mimic bug takes a test for wasps, which they've been warned is incredibly hard. But when they arrive, it's a short interview, and an immediate pass. The reason why:

Interviewer: "Hmm... Sounds sincere. Ok! You start Monday."
Mimic bug: "Huh? That's it? Isn't the exam super hard? I trained and studied all week!"
Interviewer: Ah. Those are the humbling tests. You know we wasps are known to be more solitary, selfish, and prideful than ants. They wouldn't work well as a team. So we humble them. If they don't give up, they can join."

A friend-of-a-friend lent me their copy of Spirit Island, a game I've wanted to play for a REALLY long time. But... look at this shit! It's still in the wrappers! The cardboard hasn't even been punched out! Is this just me? I HATE opening up other people's games. It feels so disrespectful.

Although... I looked at the examples on their website, and they don't really look like, uh. This.

Me having an argument with myself. One side of the argument is in white boxes, and the other is in orange-red. Notably, the white side says something like "I'm not having a mental crisis, cry laughing emoji" while the red one seems pretty insistent I take this argument seriously.

I also did my own versions of the Fated Leaders, the 3rd PnP, but those already had illustrations. Mine are just... pale imitations of @d20plusmodifier.bsky.social 's inestimable artwork. So have a couple where I went maverick and added my own (crappy) flair to them!

Hand-drawn version of the Scavenger Fated Leader. It looks pretty similar to the one drawn by Kyle Ferrin, except there's a little muffin-shaped fluffball in one of the Scavenger's bags.

A hand-drawn version of the Oracle Fated Leader. The original had three identical heads; this one has three different heads and stitchwork across the body to suggest a sort of grotesque, chimera-like creature.

The Abbot Fated Leader. This one didn't actually have a picture, so I came up with something: namely, a three-eyed alien wearing a face mask akin to a blast shield, dressed in something like priestly robes. He's looking at a shining star matching the symbol of his faith.

My hand-drawn version of the Firebrand Fated Leader. I changed up his pose a little bit: now he's winking and pointing out in front of him, very rogueish and dashing. I also changed his uniform to be more military.

For those of you in the know, Buried Giant Studios just finished a Kickstarter for a new expansion to Arcs! They've released a couple things as Print and Plays, just without their final artwork. So of course, I made my own illustrations, by hand! I'm not much of an artist, but it was super fun!

A collection of 31 illustrations for the Arcs Print and Play. They're colorful and charming, but pretty amateurish.

Adam Smith's legacy is... complicated, but at the very least, he does get some sick burns on landlords, lol. I was trying to find some good ones, but here's the best one I could find offhand.

Here's two more. The first one is DeepSeek. I... really don't understand this punchline. As to Copilot's joke... I know I've read this joke a hundred times in those lame joke books for nine-year-olds. Like I said. This is the level LLMs' jokes are at. Neuro's jokes are IMPOSSIBLE.

So, my friend Dave bragged about teaching his dog to meditate.
"He sits perfectly still, paws folded, eyes closed—total zen," he said.
I was skeptical, but sure enough, when I visited, the dog was cross-legged on a cushion, ominously serene.
Impressed, I asked, "How’d you manage this?"
Dave sighed. "Turns out he’s just *really* good at pretending I’ve thrown a treat."

The punchline? Even enlightenment is food-motivated.

Okay, I tried both ChatGPT and the free version of Claude I had access to. Their jokes are... not much better than Gemini's, but at least ChatGPT's is kinda funny. (I'm almost certain it stole this joke from somewhere, though.)

ChatGPT's decent joke: "So a guy walks into a library and asks the librarian, 'Hey, do you have any books on paranoia?' The librarian looks around and whispers, 'They're right behind you...'" Ba-dum tish.

Open-AI GPT 4o-mini's terrible joke: "Why did the computer go to school? To learn how to improve its memory! But what happened when it graduated? It kept forgetting its classmates! So where did it end up? In a web browser, surfing the net for better connections!" Ha... ha?

By contrast, I asked Gemini to tell a joke, and it gave me these stinkers. Three completely unoriginal jokes, with these weird second punchlines attached to the end that make no sense. (Also, esp. that first one, LLMs love to make meta-jokes about themselves. I assume this is programmed in.)

Gemini's first terrible joke: "Why did the language model bring a ladder to the conversation? Because it wanted to reach a higher level of understanding... and maybe get over some data biases." ughhhhhh

Gemini's second terrible joke: "What has a spine, but no bones? What can tell you stories, but has no mouth? What travels the world, but never leaves a shelf? ...A library book, obviously. But I was mostly asking because I'm trying to figure out how it keeps ordering pizza." What does pizza have to do with anything???

Gemini's third atrocious joke. "What has cities, but no houses? Forests, but no trees? And rivers, but no water? ...A map! I was asking because I'm trying to figure out how it keeps losing its car keys." Boooo, you stink!

Then they explained that it uses the Inscribed Angle Theorem, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Of course. It's all doubled angles, and the doubled angles add up to tau. So the collisions don't add up to pi; they add up to half-tau. Phew!😮‍💨
