The bike next to mine at the bike parking area yesterday was a true work bike: classic steel frame, single speed, a spindly rear carrier that likely carried more weight than it should, and a wood panel slotted over the top tube to create another flat surface for carrying more stuff.
Does anyone else go to a particular National Bookstore branch because only they have the specific brand of paper that you need? And if they run out, do you also go through every other National Bookstore branch within a fifty-kilometer radius—
Clark during the rainy weather is verdant in its forest cover and noisy with all the cicada and bird calls. I've seen several birds I never get to see in the city. There is something primal about being surrounded by that much vegetation—
Yesterday, I rode my ebike, Phoebe, into the innards of Clark for the first time. It's been a long time since I biked inside Clark and I even thought about riding at sunset the day before. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't ride at night.
This was the part of San Fernando where I made a wrong turn, ended up in a construction site, went further in some inner streets, and had to ask someone for directions to get out. 💀
The Aseana area kind of feels like BGC if it was as tall and more spread out: spacious, sleek, soulless. They also have pedestrian crossings that stay green just long enough for an able-bodied person to walk from one end to the other.
Kids these days will not know of the time when century egg was available in fucking Chow King
The only customer in an empty pizza restaurant on a drizzly late weekend night next to a currently-empty gas station. Sounds like the premise for several kinds of horror stories.
Before I went to Malate last Saturday, I went to Quiapo to buy crafting materials. I also passed by Lolo Boy's Lumpiang Quiapo (FKA Globe Lumpia Haus) — AND THEY WERE OPEN!
I bought a fat-bike ebike over the weekend and she's HUGE — even bigger than I initially pictured. Here she is next to a not-petite Honda Giorno for comparison.
Happy Pride, everyone! When I looked at the mirror, I thought, "maybe I should have brought cargo shorts instead." But here we are. Feel free to ask for a hug if you see me in Malate later. 🏳️🌈
June felt longer than it is because of all my weekend shenanigans, and we still have one more weekend left
Is this a very late lunch? Is this a rather lavish merienda? Whatever, it's a meal. Hickory pork ribs and rice from Mozaic Cafe in Dau.
Over the weekend at Mystival, I bought a pair of chainmail earrings from from kvl⸸ura (trvekvltura in IG). I'm wearing one of them so my ear can get used to the extra weight. I'm always in awe of chainmail artists because of the patience, focus, and dexterity required in the craft.
I love the sponge cake from Jim's Recipe ever since one of my sisters brought some home years ago. Their cakes are one of the things I truly miss in Pampanga. And it's wonderful that they have a branch in Gateway so I could buy some before heading back to Dau.
Fridays are always especially hectic in Quiapo because the day is when devotees of Quiapo's Black Nazarene visit the basilica. I was craving for fresh lumpia but didn't want to risk the street-side sellers so I walked through the crowd to Globe Lumpia Haus (now called Lolo Boy's)—
There's a street vendor selling cans of pork luncheon meat in Quiapo. At first I thought it was pork Ma Ling — which was banned in the Philippines several years back to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever.
So my one-step looper pliers gave up and can't cut wires anymore. Maybe it got misaligned or the cutting parts are now too worn down. It's a very helpful tool for me these past two years. And now I have to manually loop my wires again 🥲
Friends from Baguio and nearby areas! A friend shared this post about a fundraising concert for a young man fighting cancer. The post includes info on how to buy tickets and send donations. Read more: www.facebook.com/share/p/17Rk...
The last few days have been a rollercoaster. We stand with all affected artists in the demand for refund as compensation for the anguish, disruption, and financial loss caused by the decisions of the organizers. Whether they decide to continue their participation or not...
Guess I was convinced by Mia to buy some chayote leaves. And because a bundle of them is as thick as a gym bro's biceps, I'll have chayote leaves for a few days. Today I sauteed chayote leaves with bacon (I should have bought etag or kinuday) because green leaves paired with meat is a good combo.
Lactose intolerant people will appreciate this strawberry shake with no milk. It's a rich carmine color because of the amount of fresh strawberries the cafe used. It took a while to be served, though, I already ate nearly all of the slice of chocolate cake I also ordered.
Whenever I'm in Baguio, I will try to pass by and eat at Kinudayan, a Cordilleran canteen that serves kinuday — Cordilleran smoked meat.
