Right now this account is mostly for s**tposts and reposting other people's art. I won't call them "skeets." Because I like being a contrarian.
203: Babs' Big Break Another licensed retro game. Another simple yet well made side scroller with some unique touches inspired by the license. Fun mini games to win 1ups. Clever bosses. amusing set pieces. The train going through a tunnel to get you and enemies cover in soot amused me as a kid.
202: Spyro 2 The point where Spyro got his identity. Performing tasks to earn collectables instead of stumbling on them added variety to the platforming. Every level having it's own story with side quests added personality and humor.
201: Medievil Going with the remake because the original is an unlockable. Something that EVERY remake should have. It was a bit difficult to go back to a hack n slash from before lock on and dodge rolling was standard. Eventually memories of how games like this used to be played came back.
200: TMNT 2 The Arcade Game Yes, this port is different enough to be a separate game. Along with the new and remixed levels, it's also rebalanced to be far less overwhelming. though it's still not "easy." Played this version a lot more than the arcade original.
199: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Personal favorite for arcade visits back in the day. Revisiting in Cowabunga Collection brings up the question, how much of my parents money did I spend on this? This is old school beat-em-up in being as unfair as it can to keep the quarters coming. Still love it.
198: Stimpy's Invention Another comfort game on the Genesis. I wonder how many of those I have? It's a simple game. The character swapping is more of a novelty than a core mechanic. Yet, it was enjoyable enough for a quick playthrough then I didn't feel like committing to a challenge.
197: Wario World Let's be honest. The most interesting thing about this game is that it exists. As fun as the gameplay loop is, it wears thin fast. What's left is the novelty of being one the most weirdest and most disturbing games Nintendo ever published. A game more fun to talk about than replay.
196: Kirby Super Star Ultra Didn't play any Kirby games after the Gameboy ones. So when a portable remake of the one fans said was the best was announced, I was ready to jump fully into the series.
195: Virtual Springfield Wonder around a fully recreated (with some artistic liberties) Springfield. Visit familiar locations as you seek out funny animations and references to episodes you remember. It's purely a time waster game, but an enjoyable one if you love Simpsons that much.
194: Katamari Damacy It's weird. It's good. It's good that it's weird. It's weird that it's good. It's hard to really describe what makes this such an enjoyable cult favorite without pointing out what everybody already knows about it.
193: Bucky O'Hare Rented this one weekend without beating it. Because... yeah. It gets mean at the end. I enjoyed it enough to be constantly disappointed that few other games have gotten the swap-characters-at-any-point mechanic as well as it did.
192: Super Metroid Played on Virtual Console. Didn't care for it. Played on NSO with regular guide help. Understood it better. Still didn't enjoy it that much without the nostalgia. I think many of the games that took inspiration from it have surpassed it.
191: Borderlands 2 I bought it when it got a Mac port out of curiosity. It was a surprising how much I enjoyed the level grinding and weapons drop system. The writing is… very hit and miss. Yet it has that "they're having fun" vibe. So I can't hate it, even when it's not good.
190: Guitar Hero 2 I bought a copy of Official Playstation Magazine to get the demo disk and repeatedly play the four songs on it. The hype was huge for this series. It does everything the first game did, but better. As a sequel should. It has Trogdor as a bonus song, for crying out loud.
189: Space Station Silicon Valley Weaponized robot animals have taken over the station and, as a living computer chip, you have to kill them and take over their corpses to solve puzzles. A game I wanted for it's creative premise. So creative, I was too stupid to be good at it.
188: Brütal Legend I like everything about this game except playing it. The car is the problem. I never got used to the steering controls or the physics. Let's plays showed me how much time I would have spent driving if I tried to get through the whole game.
187: Toy Story 2 One of the best 3D platformers of the fifth gen. Sticks with what works and makes great use of the fact that you're playing as a toy. Great level designs based on the idea that you're exploring a world too big for you. Could do without the backtracking, but it's optional.
186: Super Mario World The best of the retro Mario platformers, according to me. That's not even nostalgia talking. I didn't have an SNES. It is mostly because 16-bit processing makes it easier to do things that 8-bit can't. I assume. Also, Yoshi.
185: Call of Duty 4 Happy America day! I hate this game. I rented it to see if it was as good as the hype said. Constantly getting shot it the back of the head by enemies that spawned out of nowhere was not fun. No, I don't think playing the Wii version effected my experience that much.
184: Bloodborne I ran around Old Yharnam, dodging sniping shots from a CHAINGUN, until I found a shortcut back to the entrance. I decided to take a break until my heart rate goes down before I get back into it. That break has gone on for several years now. Games good. My nerves just can't take it.
183: Paperboy Never owned it. Just rented once in a while. It's one of those early arcade to NES ports that are fun for a weekend, but can get repetitive fast if played too frequently.
182: L.A. Noire I really liked when Switch got a lot of prior gen titles ported to it. Gave me a chance with titles I missed. Anyway, my opinion on this one is the same as everyone else's. The investigations and interrogations are a fun experiment. The open world parts are boring. Shooting's fine.
181: Saints Row the Third Never got into the GTA series. So the internet talk of SR2 > GTA4 had my attention. Yet I waited until the third one. The over the top chaos made me a fan of the series.
180: 1080 Snowboarding I haven't played much snowboard games back when they were everywhere. This, however, is the one from Nintendo. So of course I played it. It's a fun racing game with a trick system back before that was in every kart racer.
178: Infamous 2 Does everything a sequel is supposed to do. Builds off the best parts of the first and addresses the criticisms. The story is stronger with the moral choices feeling more substantive. The new powers you get from Kyo or Nix mix things up. I prefer the ice abilities.
177: Fighter's Destiny Advertised as the only good fighting game on the N64 before Smash was ever heard of. Aesthetically it is "we have Virtua Fighter at home." Mechanically it stands out for having a point based system instead of number of rounds.
176: Indigo Prophecy I didn't know what a "Quantic Dream" or a "David Cage" was when I rented this game. This was just a weird game with a weird story that I wanted to try just to see how weird everything was. I enjoyed it for its sheer nonsense.
175: Super Mario Bros 3 To love a game and think it's overrated. I played this obsessively on release just like everyone else. It just didn't leave as big an impact on me as it did almost everyone else around my age. Now I'm here saying it's not "the best game ever" instead of what I like about it.
174: Psychonauts I didn't know I was a fan of Schafer until the press hype for this kept mentioning other games I loved. It's messy in an experimental way with new ideas that don't 100% work. Those design quirks are all part of the fun.
