🚜 Dark Night of the Scarecrow Nothing spectacular but there was still a lot of fun 80s cheese, felt like a slightly longer Tales from the Crypt kind of story. I have a soft spot for low budget slashers like these with mostly off-screen needlessly complex kills C
🦢 Survive Style 5+ This is beautifully weaved chaos that was a total blast to watch. Putting together five stories like these that are each so uniquely odd and having them work so well together in this strange shared world is so inspiring. Might become a 10/10 on a second full viewing. A
🎈 Death from High Places A pretty vanilla, inoffensive whodunit that didn't blow me away with its ending, but I still found some charm in the main duo. I'd be curious to check out other stories from this series eventually. C
⚔️ A Game of Thrones Finally got around to this series thanks to my good friend O. Really enjoyed it so far, a very dismal and fucked world that is very fun to explore. Love the cast of unique characters and how we see so much from each of them as we go from chapter to chapter. B+
🔥A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning Listened to the cast recording of this story with Tim Curry and wow he fits into this world like a glove. Very charmingly dark and I bet I would've loved this series if I ever actually got around to reading it as a kid. B
🃏 Only Murders In The Building (S5) Every time I think this show is about to completely jump the shark I still get totally attached to whatever weird dumb little misadventures these stooges get into. B
🍽️ The Bear (S5) Felt very plain compared to other seasons and a lot of fat definitely could've been trimmed, but still stayed pretty enjoyable throughout. B-
🐰 Caveat Watched this to prep for Hokum and I am hopeful this director will make something really good based on the strong points in this first major film of his, but admittedly overall it was kind of a drag. C
🎩 Kalle Och Chokladfabriken Another one to add to my "weird animations from the 70s to the 90s" collection. Very neatly animated illustrations based on the original book with great narration. B+
💿 February Albums (will listen to more this month probably I hope lmao)
😱 Scare Me This was cute and admirable for Josh Ruben's first major movie but for the most part things were just too plain. Was also shocked to learn that this predated covid since the very small cast and single location just screamed "film made with a skeleton crew in late 2020" to me. C+
🪨 Uncut Gems Yeah this was a very fun roller coaster of a story, felt like things were going by so quickly yet at the same time I felt like I was watching the days go by in real time. Oneohtrix Point Never fucking cooked on the soundtrack as well. A
🥀Little Shop of Horrors Yep I get the hype for Audery II now, it's a pretty damn cool evil alien plant. Also "dentistry pervert" was the role Bill Murray was born to play. B
🕺 Dance Freak That freak really knew how to dance. After several years as an eager Indiegogo supporter I was so happy to finally have a chance to watch this wonderful fever dream of a movie. Can't wait to get the Blu-ray I ordered even though I don't think I have a Blu-ray player anymore lol A+
🔎 A Murder Between Friends The 'Snakes on a Train' of whodunits. Could not more blatantly be trying to rip off Knives Out, from the poster to the attempts at being meta to the final "big twists." Holy fuck I'm still mad I wasted my time on this. F
Claude has stated to post-game press that he wishes more was done on his end but he is "immensely proud of his team for picking up the slack" All Kat had to say was "WOOOW way to pull your weight guys" before immediately leaving his chair and swatting a cup of water off of the table on his way out
It was certainly much closer than last year and the Seahawks put up a fight, especially near the end, but the Patriots just barely took the win with a rare Kat Tut W!
🧹 Cleaners It took a moment for it to take off for me, but once things clicked this movie became fucking beautiful. The pain, love, confusion, wonder, and messiness that all comes with growing up is universal no matter the time or place. In other words: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! A+
SAT @ 5PM PST / 7PM CST, I will once again use Peggle to predict The Big Game™ I have utilized @pnaha.bsky.social's shot randomizer to allow two new tributes to hash it out in a full 55 level melee + This year I will actually be Peggling myself in a "halftime show" featuring a very "BAD BUNNY" 🎩👀
📂 Problemista I don't like the word "relatable" but I can't think of a better descriptor. There was so much charm here wrapped in a story that I've often felt as someone who has experienced the nightmare that is finding employment (right down to lying about what software you know how to use) B+
🩸Iron Lung A bit of fat needed to be trimmed from this, as it dragged for a bit too long and got a bit confusing near the end, but for the most part it was a pretty good claustrophobic sci-fi lovecraftican horror. Also took a sec for Mark to sink into an actual character but once he did I was in B+
🍫 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ('01 Scott Frank Version) I know this is random as fuck but I've had this fascination for scrapped movie/tv scripts, and this one I learned about was so interesting. It's not perfect and pretty dated at times, but the bones were there for something neat. B
👊 Kung Pow: Enter the Fist I respect how unapologetically, unrelentingly stupid as fuck this entire movie is, for better and for worse. Steve Oedekerk might truly be one of the most underrated out there in the art of "shitpost filmmaking" C+
👔 Stop Making Sense Started this while half asleep and it really felt like I was living in some kind of big magical dream. Even the Talking Heads songs that I've felt were the weakest still had so much beauty in them when they were performed live. A
🪑 The Chair Company (S1) Pairing the unrelenting chaotic comedy style from Tim Robinson and his crew with a mystery thriller makes for a pretty good combination! The cliffhanger ending for the season felt a touch flat compared to everything building up before it but this was still a fun time. B-
🏈 HIM Jordan Peele's name being plastered all over this as if he directed it felt like a big red flag and it looks like I was right in that assumption. I just know there's a good movie hidden in here somewhere but what we got is so cluttered and poorly executed... D
