Silence of the Lambs is also getting a 4K upgrade from Criterion with the same extras as the 2018 BD. However I do recommend the Arrow 4K (right pic) more as it includes STELLAR exclusive commentaries from critics/historians and Arrow’s encode and audio is a little better than Criterion’s.
GDT’s Frankenstein is getting its physical media release through Criterion this October. Easily the best Frankenstein adaptation since the James Whales films & this release will also include an extended cut that is about 8 minutes longer. Definitely the highlight of Criterion’s October slate.
As rumored for months, "Gone with the Wind" is getting a 4K UHD release on 11/03/2026. Your mileage will vary on how you feel about this film & the way it portrays the American South. But it looks like WB nailed the 4K transfer and it should look as gorgeous as Wizard of Oz & Singin in the Rain.
"Sing Street" also is getting a 4K UHD release on 08/11/2026 through Lionsgate Limited. Still John Carney's best film and I like how the packaging mirrors the props in the film.
"The Furious" (my favorite movie of 2026) is getting a 4K UHD release on 08/11/2026! This being a Lionsgate Limited exclusive does annoy me as the special features are basically what you'd get in a standard release. But the artwork looks great & @priscillapage.bsky.social is writing the booklet!
Here are the previous ones for the prior main Avengers films. I don't hang up any posters on my walls but if I did these would be among the 1st I'd have.
A tradition I love about Avengers films before they come out is that we get to see an awesome concept poster and this one for Doomsday is no different. Bittersweet this time though as Andy Park who drew this was one of the artists who was let go this year. Disney/Marvel needs to hire him back asap.
MPG-25 Broadcast (aka Masterpiece Blaster) and his cassette bots are finally coming. FINALLY, a regular MP figure of a character that was overdue for the Masterpiece line. And of course, he will go will with MP Soundwave which I can't wait to take photos of together.
It's hard to say if the Super Sentai license are able to be picked up by another label given the complicated ties to the Power Rangers license & Hasbro. I hope a boutique label like Discotek getting it happens but until then buying the Shout Factory DVDs or keeping them are your best bet for now.
"Supergirl" unfortunately was a mediocre sophomore outing in the DCU franchise. Milly Alcock does imbue Kara with the humanity needed to pull of this pathos-driven take on the character. Also, the concept (ala the source material) is a great idea for a film BUT the problem lies with the director.
Barnes and Noble Criterion haul for the month! I went a bit overboard this time around.
Project Hail Mary may have the BEST steelbook of the year (so far). Minimalist art feels inspired by the film's tone without coming across as plain. The hard slipcover, booklet, and additional extras NOT on the regular release makes this all the more special. Wish it wasn't Amazon exclusive though.
Last as far as Arrow news from me is Doug Limon's "Go" debuting on 4K for the 1st time. It's been ages since I've seen this one, but I always found it to be an undiscovered gem. Very much a Gen X movie with light Tarantino inspirations and a lot of goofy shenanigans.
Arrow is doing their own 4K disc of "Misery". This carries over all the extras from the Kino & Shout discs AND has a new commentary from film critics which should be interesting. A/V quality should be better too as Arrow's encoding is leaps and bounds better than Kino's (especially with the audio).
Forbidden Planet to my delighted surprise is getting the 4K Arrow set. A retro 50s sci-fi classic that features Robby the Robot and a solid dramatic performance from a young Leslie Nielsen. This disc includes the allusive Perspecta stereo audio which I believe has never been released on home video.
Arrow's version of "A Better Tomorrow" trilogy is here which completes John Woo HK heroic bloodshed films collection! Like the other Arrow Golden Harvest sets, the artwork is superb, the English subs are excellent, & will also include archival extras/alternate cuts that weren't on the Shout set.
#ToyStory5 keeps the tradition of great Toy Story movies going. It's not my favorite one in the sense that it doesn't quite have the highs of the 1st three. Yet this film remains just as funny and empathetic while exploring characters and themes that hasn't been touched on in previous films.
Yeah, it's dumb to not getting the ball rolling for a Wonder Woman animated series.
Insane that it took Disney 4 YEARS after the film came out to then finally decide to give "Barbarian" a 4K/Blu-ray disc release. Better late than never & damn sure I'm keeping my eyes on this. It will be released on August 11th 2026 & contents include a commentary, a featurette, & deleted scenes.
Fuck! Criterion is really gonna make me spend God knows how much on this. #StanleyKubrick
