Fairerweise: Der Vergleich mit Portugal stammt aus der Pressemitteilung von @unicefdeutschland.bsky.social selbst. Dort macht der Kontext aber die eigentliche Nachricht viel deutlicher: nämlich dass das Hauptproblem in Deutschland in der sozialen Ungleichheit liegt.
Wenn man in deutschen Medien (hier @zeit.de) sagen will, dass die Lage wirklich schlimm ist, dann schreibt man so etwas wie "Deutschland liegt im Ranking hinter Portugal und Rumänien" und merkt gar nicht, wie arrogant und chauvinistisch das ist.

The key graph of the month is this one. As can be seen, the combined seat number of the three far-right groups in the EP started to decrease already in autumn 2025. But the decline has only been slight thus far. Whether it will gain more pace now remains to be seen.
Jürgen Habermas has played an enormous role in deepening our understanding of democracy and constitutionalism, both in general and for the EU in particular. (Personal case in point: He's the author I cited the most in my PhD thesis.) His voice will be missed. The discourse will continue.

Allerdings mit Ausnahmen in beiden Richtungen: - Bei Landtagswahlen in ostdeutschen Bundesländern dominiert oft auch ein extern-erklärender Diskurs. - Der Rechtsruck der dänischen Sozialdemokraten wird in 🇩🇪 und anderswo oft auch als eine nachzuahmende Strategie diskutiert.
In der Berichterstattung über Wahlen in anderen EU-Mitgliedstaaten wird dagegen meist eher mit Blick auf die dortige politische Stimmung interpretiert werden, weniger im Sinne europaweit übertragbarer parteipolitischer Strategien.
Trotzdem dominiert in der öffentlichen Debatte nach der Wahl oft eine Perspektive auf die Strategien der Bundesparteien - etwa in der Art, dass Özdemir gezeigt habe, dass die Grünen einen "Kurs der Mitte" fahren müssten, um erfolgreich zu sein.
The nonchalance with which some EU leaders are talking about nukes ("Why not?") is worrying. Yes, we have to reorganise European defence, and maybe nuclear rearmament is part of that. But there are also good reasons why the global non-proliferation regime was created, and we have to address them.

Also, what exactly is the news value of these paragraphs? That people vote for candidates in Portugal for pretty much the same reasons they vote for candidates anywhere else?
As far as I can see, there hasn't been any EU reaction to the attack so far. The European Council is "concerned about the situation in Venezuela", of course, but that's an old statement referring to the human rights situation under Maduro's regime.
Es ist eine befremdliche Mediensitte, Treffen des Europäischen Rates als Nullsummenspiele mit "Siegern" und "Verlierern" zu behandeln. Man kann an Merz' Europapolitik einiges kritisieren. Aber nicht auf seinem Plan zu beharren, sondern das Ziel auf anderem Weg zu erreichen, spricht eher für ihn.

Warum um alles in der Welt sagt man als deutscher Kanzler so etwas? Warum dieses völlig anlasslose Schlechtreden eines großen demokratischen Schwellenlands, um das man sich doch eher als Verbündeten bemühen sollte? Und das noch in einer Kontext, in dem es um "Debattenkultur" geht?
Nun ja, der Algorithmus hat offenbar verstanden, mit welchem Argument es die Bundeswehr bei User:innen wie mir am besten versuchen sollte. 😉
If you look at Italian polling timelines, you'll see that the curves are often pretty smooth - but also that they predict actual voting results quite badly. (Also note the sudden "adjustment jumps" after EP elections.) So maybe what looks like party system stability is just pollsters herding.
There are those days when I open Bluesky and I immediately see that something dramatic must have happened on the other side of the Atlantic, but I have absolutely no idea what it is.
In some German local elections, you have similar ballots - and when you look closely, you can even see that some candidate names are listed two or three times. And the headline says: "Every voter has 70 votes." 😆
Hallo @tagesspiegel.de (mit dpa und Reuters), sollte die Schlagzeile hier nicht eher lauten: "Trump brabbelt irgendetwas über die Ukraine daher"? Der Aussagewert dieser Sätze ist doch nahezu Null.
Im Text selbst kommt die Information immerhin schon im zweiten Satz (und irgendwann weiter unten erscheint dann sogar auch noch der Name "EVP").
