Loved Mosswood Meltdown so much. Hard to know where to begin. We've been wanting to come for sooooooo long. Saw this Ramones cover band made of nerds, and then a pun presented itself at the airport today.

"California’s 52nd Congressional District: Frances Yasmeen Motiwalla

District 52 was yet another district shifted by the recent Prop 50. Still the most southwestern district in the state, what used to end at Otay Ranch now stretches further east, all the way to Jacumba. This will theoretically make it tougher to win as a progressive, but the added geography is a relatively small population, and this district had been firmly blue (20-30 points) for quite some time. It is currently represented by Juan Vargas, who has periodically supported progressive legislation and was considered left of center until this past March. Vargas was one of four Democrats to vote against stopping Trump’s illegal war in Iran, a backbreaking vote in a resolution that ended 219-212. He then supported a second War Powers resolution in April, which was opposed by only one Democrat; the right move but too little, too late.

At the same time, Frances Yasmeen Motiwalla, a longtime community organizer, announced that she would be launching a campaign to unseat Vargas. Frances has been prominently involved in Activist SD, Peace Action, and Grassroots Global Justice. Her platform centers around urgent climate protection action, divesting from militarism spending (including ICE), and taxing billionaires to fund universal healthcare and education.

We recognize that this is a protest campaign. Due to its last-minute nature, Frances was unable to qualify for the ballot with enough valid signatures, a determination she is challenging. In classic Frances fashion, she is unbothered and continues to fight via a write-in campaign. While the odds are long, we commend Frances for her continued fight and will support this protest campaign against Vargas. We recommend writing in Frances Yasmeen Motiwalla for Congressional District 52."

Went to some VERY rad places in Tucsan this weekend while we were there for Ten West.

The Shelter is a rad bar bedecked in Kennedy memorabilia. Here my wife is waiting for a marg, leaning on a red and black speckled table in a sparkly gold vinyl booth, on which my old dawg already has his drink (a water bowl; it was heatwavey while we were in Tucsan).

A conference rooftop mixer gets you a pretty deece view from over the light rail to the very close mountains.

This cat sleeps in the shade tarps above the awesome patio/courtyard at Jojo's. She belongs to the Jojo's owner, but I blew it and forgot to get both of their names.

Hey guys, I'm looking around at the whole thing here, and it's tough to know how to feel at any given moment! There's so much hot garbage, but I'm also frequently enjoying culture, and people, and I'm currently waiting for a few folks to join me for a motion design irl meetup with a delicious beer.

A delicious "Light Beer" at Societe Brewing looks cold and crisp and really drinkable. The over half-full glass is on a table with some San Diego Motion Design Meetup stickers.

Lack of political stability could be a deal breaker

Some increase in Venezuela's oil production could happen fairly quickly with more financial support and improved management, according to an analysis by Wood Mackenzie, an energy consultancy.

But Mahdavi says the Trump administration's plans to jumpstart the industry will be difficult. He notes that it took nearly two decades to revitalize Iraq's oil industry after the U.S. invasion, though corruption and mismanagement remain pervasive.

And ultimately, notes Kepes, if it's unclear who is in charge in Venezuela, oil companies will have concerns about the long-term viability of their contracts. "No one's going to start investing on the ground in a place where there's no legal contract and viable permission to operate or if there's concerns about political stability and violence," he says.

Shoup then criticizes the Institute of Transportation Engineers for how it determines parking generation rates and the amount of parking needed for certain land uses, for extrapolating based on limited data, and for not accounting for factors like public transportation, which he argues leads to inaccurate rates. He concludes that the methods used to determine these rates amount to "pseudoscience" because they appear scientific but are, in his view, often arbitrary.

Applying historic tech bubbles' circumstances makes it all much more obvious. I hope we can pivot from pivoting to actually tamping down expectations for a softer burst event.
